Sorrento is the westernmost town of the Amalfi Coast, a chain of historic port towns on the southern side of the Sorrentine Peninsula, south of Naples. The Isle of Capri lies just a few km/mi west of Sorrento, in the Tyrrhenian Sea. A resort since the times of the Roman Republic, Capri is known for its rugged coastline and spectacular offshore rock formations.
