Ice Jam
AIRVŪZ STAFF NOTE :
With its capital located at 57 degrees north latitude, the Baltic country Latvia basically freezes in the winter. In particular, the country's inland rivers and lakes become covered with extremely thick layers of ice. When spring comes, the waterways become giant traffic jams of floating chunks of ice, which can be sources of dangerous floods. In this drone video by top contributor Jurgis Kreilis, you'll get a bird's eye view of this phenomenon on two river towns - Pļaviņas and Ogre.

An ice jam is a dam on a river formed by blocks of ice as the river ice begins to break up in the early spring. These are worrying days and weeks for people in two cities of Latvia - Pļaviņas and Ogre. This natural phenomenon is very beautiful, but dangerous, as can evoke ice jam floods. FilmDay visited these two cities on the weekend and today we'd like to present this short film of the things seen. We wish strength and endurance to all people that have been affected by this year's winter floods. Let's hope ice will keep moving and never stop!
