IS THIS WHERE THE CROP CIRCLE PHENOMENA BEGAN??

Cheesefoot Head, Nr Winchester, Hampshire (aka The Matterley Bowl) This stunning natural amphitheatre is significant for a number reasons especially to those with a love of Crop Circles. However during the Second World War boxing events were held here for the entertainment of American troops stationed locally, and prior to D-Day, General Eisenhower addressed troops before what was arguably the most significant battle of the Second World War. Since 2000 it has been home to various music festivals including Homelands, Glade and currently BoomTown Fair. You can even see the marks left on the field from this years event. The significance however to the world of Crop Circles is an important one for it was here in the early 1980's that the worlds media stood up and took note of the phenomena. Driving past it on the A272 you have a clear view down into the bowl and it was here that researcher Colin Andrews spotted his first crop circle and so it began. There were dozens reported here through the 1980's and into the 90's even after the confession from Doug and Dave IN 1991. It was also the site of operation "White Crow" in June of 1989 where researchers Pat Delgado, Colin Andrews and Busty Taylor attempted to capture, on film a Crop Circle forming. Today, the surrounding area still sees Crop Circles from time to time but the corn fields of the bowl are long gone. I suppose it's more lucrative to rent the field out once a year for a popular music festival than growing crops. None of that subtracts from the beauty of the location and i hope you enjoy the video.
