Hiking in Turoa, New Zealand

Some of the most beautiful scenery on New Zealand's North Island are to be found in Tongariro National Park, near the center of the island.  Among the highlights of the park is the Turoa ski field on the slopes of Mt. Ruapehu, the North Island's highest mountain.  Turoa "played the role" of Lonely Mountain in the blockbuster movie The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug (2013), part of the Hobbit prequel series.  Check out Turua from a bird's eye perspective in this drone video by contributor and pilot  AndrewAchter.
