GJIROKASTËR | Albania by Drone in 4K - DJI Mavic Air 2

AIRVŪZ STAFF NOTE :

Former DVOW Finalist eCKsplorer brings us this excellent drone tour of the historic city of Gjirokastër, Albania.  Situated in a valley near Albania's southern border with Greece, Gjirokastër dates to the early 14th century, when the area was under control of the Byzantine Empire; in the early 15th century, it came under Ottoman (Muslim) control for 500 years before Albania became independent in 1913.  Starting at about the 2:30 mark, you'll see the (namesake) medieval fortress which overlooks the town.

Gjirokaster is a UNESCO World Heritage site, located in the South of Albania. It's name in Medieval Greek translates to 'Silver Castle'. The city's record dates it back to 1336, when it was part of the Byzantine Empire. It is the birthplace of Enver Hoxha, the former communist leader. Above the city sits Gjirokaster Fortress and its old town has been recognized for its intact Ottoman influences.
