First Person View of Madara Horseman / Мадарски конник

The Madara Horseman is a place of pilgrimage for every Bulgarian and certainly for us on every visit to Georgi's hometown - Shumen - nearby. It's a place of rare beauty and power: Madara was the principal sacred place of the 1st Bulgarian Empire before Bulgaria’s conversion to Christianity in the 9th century. The relief represents the figure of a knight triumphing over a lion and is carved into a 100-m-high cliff. A steep hike leads to the plateau from which an expansive sight is revealed. The inscriptions around the relief are a chronicle of important events concerning the reigns of very famous Khans: Tervel, Kormisos and Omurtag between 704-801 AD. Note: No historical artefacts were harmed in the production of this video. We use aircarft specially designed to be safely flown around valuble artwork and in proximity with people.
