Echoes of the Dead Sea | Aerial Photography | A tribute to Pink Floyd "Echoes"
AIRVŪZ STAFF NOTE :
Check out this aerial film, a tribute to Pink Floyd “Echoes,” by pilot AirWorks. The breathtaking top down shots feature the Dead Sea, the infamous salt lake in Asia bordered by Jordan to the east, Isreal and the West Bank to the west. It’s earth’s lowest elevation on land at 1,412 feet (430.5 meters) below sea level. Its salinity levels are 9.6 times as salt as the ocean, making it a harsh environment where plants and animals cannot survive (hence its name).

I dedicated the main part of a 3 days shooting trip in southern Israel to the "Dead-Sea" - the lowest place in Israel (and the whole world, some 430 meter below sea level). I was amazed by the incredible alien like views of the crystalized salt. The extraordinary colors of the mineral water and the unique textures reveled as the the water level declines (about 1 meter each year in the last ~50 years as a result of pumping, among other things). Above all studs out the vast devastation, cuesd by the expending sinkholes phenomenon. 2 days after I return, still with a great sensation from the trip, I happened to listen to Pink Floyd 'Echoes' (Live at Gdansk) that was randomly played in my car player. From the very first "ping" in the beginning I new that this was IT. The very long, complex and bizarre sound in it was a perfect match. I took it as a project to express my great admiration of the 'dead-sea' with this somewhat un-earthly and versatile song. My editing in this short film is heavily based on the music vibe and tone. It is almost irrelevant to see the video without the sound. The words to me were almost as they were written to this place, describing the landscape and the harmful progression it is undertaken. It wasn't my intention when going on this trip (as I just shoot the things that I like) but a story grows out of the sights together with the music. They reveal the implication of an uncontrolled, disproportional usage of nature resource that ignoring all sign of alarm. It is absurd that this degrading process give birth to such unique beauty. I hope that we can still stop the death of the Dead Sea, even if there no hope to return it to the way it was. This is a 50FPS (1080 FHD) version.
