Drone Footage of Mexico City's Air Pollution Emergency
Published 05/20/2019 02:31On May 13, 2019 award-winning pilot Postandfly used his drone to document the air pollution in Mexico City.
He flew a drone over Mexico’s capital on one of its worst air quality days. Mexico City’s smog is a result not just of its size but because it is in a valley surrounded by mountains. The smog was especially bad on this day because of nearby forest fires and the hot climate.
Since then, air conditions have continued to worsen, causing officials to declare an environmental emergency. The pollution levels are so high that those at particular risk are being urged to stay indoors, and there is a restriction on the number of cars that can be driven.
Pollution particles measured more than six times the world health organization’s daily recommended limit. This film provides a compelling visual testament to the limits of urban growth.
