Drepano FPV - KiteSurf Xtreme Sports Greece

The Drepano (formerly Drill) is a village of former Patras province of Achaia . After the implementation of the program Kallikratis constitutes the local community of Drepanos and belongs to the Rio municipality of Patreon municipality with a population of 541 inhabitants . Located in the homonymous cape, to which its name is due, it is 4 kilometers from Rio . The area is believed to have been inhabited continuously since antiquity. According to Pausanias ' descriptions, there was the ancient volina of Volina , but also the Wall of Athena, which was the border of the Ruppian country with Patras. Archaeologist Mich. Petropoulos summarizes archaeological information linking Drepano with Volina saying that the modern village is built on the same site . An ancient settlement has been found on the site of the present village, extending further south to rural areas . In Drepano there is an excavated cemetery of geometric period, and a number of antiquities in excavations for building construction. The name Drepano is preserved from antiquity to Cape because of its shape like a sickle . In 1835 it was a village of the newly formed Municipality of Argyria until 1841 when with a new administrative change the municipality was dissolved . In 1841 with the NW. 27/11/1840 annexed to the Municipality of Patras until 1912. In 1912 (GG 256A - 28/08/1912) the Drepano Community was established which by 1925 included the Arachovitika based in Drepano. In 1997, with the Kapodistrias Plan, the community was abolished and became a municipality of Rio. Today is a well known destination among surfers and kite surfers all around the globe.
