Diving an Abandoned Nuclear Cooling Tower - FPV - Pt. 2

With the permission of the owners, we had the opportunity to fly inside WNP-5, a cooling tower at the unfinished Satsop Nuclear Plant. We were also given the chance to fly inside Reactor 5, as well as inside the Turbine Building. It was the most intense FPV experience we've ever had, special thanks to Nathan for making it all possible, and my roommate Will for the awesome original mix!

The Abandoned Satsop Nuclear Plant near Elma, Washington, was a part of the largest nuclear power plant construction project in U.S. history, but the 481-foot cooling towers on the site were never used. After the multi-billion dollar development was scrapped in 1983, the ambitious development failed because of a $61 million budget shortfall. Satsop Nuclear Power Plant was funded by the Washington Public Power Supply System, which relied on $2.25 billion of municipal bonds sold to finance the project. The Satsop facility lay dormant for a decade, until the Grays Harbor County government petitioned WPPSS to leverage the site for economic development. A top of the line communications infrastructure has been one of the incentives that has brought businesses back to the renamed Satsop Business Park.
