The quads are back in action on Season 2 of Drone Trippin! This season, a world-class crew of FPV pilots headlined by ZoeFPV, JohnnyFPV, SFPV, and FlyingBearFPV heads to Oahu, Hawaii to shred the island’s beautiful coastline, breathtaking cliffs, epic beach parks, and abandoned structures in between competition at the World Drone Racing Championships. After a week of epic FPV flights on Oahu, it's only fitting the Drone Trippin crew would bring it all to a firey close at a beachside luau with a few of their closest friends: the rest of the pilots from Drone Worlds. On the finale of season two of Drone Trippin, the AirVuz team has set out a challenge unlike anything the pilots have faced throughout the week. They'll have one minute to put out as many tiki torches as they can with their quads; easy in principle, but surprisingly treacherous. They are, after all, quite literally playing with fire. Looking for more freestyle and racing action? Want to check out the pilots' own edits of their stops on the trip? Get your FPV fix, along with special edits and personal content from your Drone Trippin crew, ZoeFPV, JohnnyFPV, SFPV, and FlyingBearFPV on their personal AirVuz pages! Or re-live all of Drone Trippin Season 1 and past episodes of Season 2 on the Drone Trippin homepage. https://soundcloud.com/jol3xedm VIDEO TRANSCRIPT: Angie Avestruz: On the season finale of Drone Trippin ... Angie Avestruz: Have you guys ever put out fire before with your quads? Colby Curtola: No. Zoe Stumbaugh: No. (laughs) Angie Avestruz: Worried at all? Colby Curtola: It's been a lot of firsts out here, so ... this is going to be another one. Angie Avestruz: [00:00:30] It is the final episode of Drone Trippin here in Hawaii. All week we've been checking out what you guys have been up to after the races, and tonight we're hanging out with a special friend. We have Kendall from Air Views News, and behind the [00:01:00] goggles ... Kendall Mark: I'm here for Drone Worlds, just like a lot of us here. Just seeing how this thing has changed since ... I met you over a year ago, Colby. The chaos ... but it was still so cool, and now, how much everything has grown has just been really, really awesome. I'm really curious to see what they heck we're doing here with all these tiki torches. Zoe Stumbaugh: Well, we're at an awesome luau, some of our awesome pilot friends with us, and I think we're going to try to do a bit of a challenge. Colby Curtola: We have eight tiki torches ... give pilots one minutes to put out as many torches as they can using their quad [00:01:30] copters, line of sight. Since it's a little too dark to do FPV out here, my line of sight is horrible, so ... Zoe Stumbaugh: Mine, too. I'm expecting me to get the first one out, and then I'm going to go to the second one and crash into the third one. Yeah, I think everyone is nominating me to go first. I've never done fire before. I've never tried ... Colby Curtola: It's just go above one, little throttle pop, go to the right, throttle pop, roll from one to the next, like upside-down, right side up, upside-down, right side up. Zoe Stumbaugh: Let me just try putting out the fire first, Colby. (laughs) Angie Avestruz: Are you ready? Zoe Stumbaugh: It's not if I'm ready, [00:02:00] it's if they're ready! (laughs) Angie Avestruz: All right. Three, two, one, go! Speaker 6: I feel like a lot of people who know about FPV know that Zoe is the queen of three-dimensional flying, but I don't think that's going to be able to come in handy much with this. This is nuts. There's one, there's one. She's got 30 seconds left. Not bad, not bad. I think the control that would be involved [00:02:30] with doing this would be crazy. So you want to get close to the fire, but not flame up your quad cops, you know what I mean? Oh, that was close! Angie Avestruz: Ten seconds left! Colby Curtola: How many? Angie Avestruz: Ten seconds! Colby Curtola: Come on, get two ... Everyone: Three, two, one, oh... Angie Avestruz: And now she's just doing cool stuff. (laughs) That is harder than it looks! Zoe Stumbaugh: That's hard! Angie Avestruz: That is hard. Colby, you ready? Speaker 8: I believe in you, Colby, you're gonna get seven and a half. Angie Avestruz: Three, two, [00:03:00] one, go! Whoa ... coming in hot ... Kendall Mark: New tactic! I met Colby about a year ago at the California Cup. He designed a bunch of courses for them, so I always feel like he has this [inaudible 00:03:14] being so good at that, that probably won't come into effect like ... at all right now. Everyone: Colby, Colby, Colby ... Colby Curtola: I am not good ... Kendall Mark: That was so close. Colby Curtola: I gotta walk! Angie Avestruz: His strategy is moving. [00:03:30] Oh, there we go! Colby Curtola: Stand back, guys. Angie Avestruz: 15 seconds ... 10 seconds ... Five, four ... Everyone: Three, two, one ... Angie Avestruz: Time. Kendall Mark: Nice ... three is the number to beat, man. Angie Avestruz: Three is now the number to beat. Who's up next? Kendall Mark: Drone Nationals, Zack actually won [00:04:00] the entire racing competition part of it, that's how he got here to world. How are you doing this so quickly? Angie Avestruz: Oh no! Everyone: Oh! Kendall Mark: You're not supposed to decapitate us. Angie Avestruz: Three, two, one, go! Kendall Mark: Everyone [00:04:30] is being so creepy behind the scenes right now. Everybody's in "pick on Johnny" mode tonight. Everyone: Johnny, Johnny, Johnny, Johnny, Johnny ... Johnny: Dude, I'm gonna crash! Everyone: Oh! Kendall Mark: Johnny, you're not supposed to hit the tiki torch, you're supposed to ... Angie Avestruz: You've still got 30 seconds! You've still got 30 seconds! Kendall Mark: Go pick up your quad. [00:05:00] This is just like freestyle, just pick it up! Johnny: It's done. Angie Avestruz: Now, is that disqualification, Kendall? [crosstalk 00:05:07] Kendall Mark: I feel like you get zero points for [inaudible 00:05:10] Angie Avestruz: And time. Johnny: I heard "quad flies like butt". Colby Curtola: Come on, Johnny. Angie Avestruz: Cain, are you ready? Cain Madere: Yeah. Angie Avestruz: Three, two, one, go. Kendall Mark: Cain probably has one of my favorite [inaudible 00:05:29] names cause his last [00:05:30] name's Madere, so it's like "mad air". Speaker 6: Oh yeah, he's got one, pretty much easy ... Kendall Mark: 30 seconds left and this kid's already got three of them out. Everyone: (screaming) Colby Curtola: It's good! It's good it's good it's good it's good it's good. Watch out. Speaker 6: Did that just happen? It literally fell in the fire and he just picked it back up. Angie Avestruz: Ten, nine, eight ... four ... three, [00:06:00] two, one, time, time! Everyone: Oh! (screaming) Colby Curtola: (laughs) and in the fire pit? Everyone: Mad air! Mad air! Mad air! Mad air! Mad air! Mad air! Cain Madere: I thought the orange light on the back was like an ember or something. I thought it was on fire. Angie Avestruz: Cain, what happened out there? Cain Madere: [00:06:30] I hit the tiki torch and it landed in the fire pit. I was able to get it out and finish ... I think all of them, right? Angie Avestruz: You were a seven out of eight, you hit the last one but... Cain Madere: Seven, I'll take it! [crosstalk 00:06:43] Angie Avestruz: Cain, congratulations, you're the official winner of the Drone Trippin Tiki Challenge out here. You got seven out of eight. You did get that last one, but the time was up. Not to mention, you went into the fire pit. Talk us through what happened out [00:07:00] there. Cain Madere: That was just a bonus ... it was another fire I was trying to blow out. No, but I tried to take it easy ... one at a time. Slow and easy makes the race. Kendall Mark: Did it help watching these two fly first? Colby Curtola: No. (laughs) You have a background in 3D helipilot ... Cain Madere: Yeah, I've been flying 3D helis for a while. Being that I know how to fly 3D helis, I've mastered almost every orientation of my flying quads. No matter the orientation it was easy to tell which way to go. Angie Avestruz: What was going through your mind when you were in the fire pit? Cain Madere: At first [00:07:30] I was like ... I was thinking about that it would be really funny if something went in the fire and then I did it. Kendall Mark: It was like this delayed reaction for everyone, everyone was like "Oh.." and then all of a sudden it was like "OH!" Didn't everybody who came in the top three ... everybody flew your quad too, right? Cain Madere: Yeah, everyone in that podium was flying my quad. It was a good luck charm. Kendall Mark: Right? Colby Curtola: What are you flying there? Cain Madere: This is a Astro X5 Frame. Kendall Mark: So next time you need to put out a fire, that's what you're gonna fly. Cain Madere: Yeah, this is it. Angie Avestruz: In addition to being the champion here, Airvuz.com is providing $250 to the winners, so that is you. Congrats! Kendall Mark: [00:08:00] You can fix all your burnt out parts ... apparently nothing happened though, it flew fine. Cain Madere: It's a little burnt up, but... Kendall Mark: A little smoldered. Cain Madere: It still works. Angie Avestruz: [inaudible 00:08:09] Colby Curtola: Yeah, thank you for entertaining us and thank God no one got hurt ... close calls. Kendall Mark: Thank you guys for having me, it was fun to hang out with you guys. This is crazy. Can I go to all the Drone Trippin parties? Colby Curtola: This is our life, every night. Angie Avestruz: From all of us here in Hawaii for Drone Trippin, thanks for watching! Mahalo! Everyone: Mahalo!
