On this season of Drone Trippin, AirVūz Pilots Zoe Stumbaugh, Shaun Taylor, Shelby Voll and Colby Curtola head on the road trip of their lives. The pilots travel through scenic destinations across the western USA with FPV whiz, Trey Player, in a droned-out R.V. to test their skills in quad building, freestyle flow, drone racing, and pilot accuracy. What better way to show off those skills than with some Star Wars challenges? See what ZoeFPV as Chewbacca, Nytfury as Kylo Ren, Shelby Voll as Darth Vader, and SFPV as Obi Wan Kanobe can bring to the table and get the scoop on what these pilots are like once the goggles are off!
Colby-Wan Kanobe goes goggle to goggle to with NytFury to see who can proxy-flip an abandoned boat in the middle of the desert! Mind blown? Just wait until you see Zoe's brand new 3D innovations to make your face melt upside down - what gravity? Shelby hots a sick gap with his wing that you'll have to see to believe as well. Just another day Drone Trippin!
VIDEO TRANSCRIPT: Trey Player: This is Drone Trippin. [00:00:30] This episode, more Moab. Colby Curtola: So we're just about to pull up to our campsite and off to the left we saw this busted down houseboat off to the side of the road. And we all looked at each other and we told Trey again, "Man you got to pull over." Shelby Voll: We're like, "How the hell is there a boat out in the middle of the desert." Trey Player: [00:01:00] So here's what's going on. We're driving by, Shaun looks at Zoe and goes, "I challenge you." Zoe goes, "What, what are you talking about?" He says, "You have to fly through this boat upside down." Zoe hasn't even seen this dang boat, right. All right. Here we are and she's walking out to check it out. So let's see what happens. Zoe Stumbaugh: Shaun said, "Okay Zoe, go inverted through the boat." I looked at him like he was crazy because he's a little crazy. That's not a straight shot through. Shelby Voll: This is a tiny boat. Zoe Stumbaugh: [00:01:30] Dude check this out. Like that's just not a straight shot through. You have to really- Shelby Voll: You have to be at an angle right here. Colby Curtola: There is kind of a window, I'd say it's about four foot wide. And then there's a hallway all the way down to the end of the houseboat that you can actually fly through. Shelby Voll: Zoe's contemplating the line. I only see one line to get through there and that's right here. That's threading the needle. Zoe Stumbaugh: I looked at it. I went out there. I got really frustrated [00:02:00] because I didn't think it was possible. So I was like screw this. I was kind of pissed off, we had a long day. And I went out and I just killed some batteries on freestyle and oh my god it was so much fun. I did tricks around the boat that I have never done before. And I can not wait to do again. This is [00:02:30] a warm-up battery, I'm not going to do it on this one. I don't know if I feel like doing this. Yeah, fuck that. There's no way that that's happening inverted. Shelby Voll: [crosstalk 00:03:45] [00:03:30] Okay. Here I go. On [00:04:00] the back side of the boat there was this kind of weird metal framing, [00:04:30] if you will. And on the side, the way I lined it up, you had to line it up just right to hit it and go through. So I think that if you talked to us like, "I want to hit it too." Yeah! So I did that, pinched through the sign and the boat itself. That was pretty cool. It let go further up. Zoe Stumbaugh: I think you lost [00:06:00] a GoPro. Shelby Voll: Why you get a warranty, folks. Colby Curtola: So Zoe went first and she didn't make it, she crashed. I think she broke her pod and didn't want to go again. I had to step up for the light side and I challenged Shaun to a power loop challenge. Going actually under the houseboat. [00:06:30] The first time I went through, I caught a snag. There was like a metal pole hanging out the bottom of the boat. And I crashed out, it was pretty bad. Shaun Taylor: Colby Wan thought it would be cute to challenge me to a ... I guess you'd call it a proxy flip. Colby Curtola: I crashed out. Shaun Taylor: I made it. Woo! Colby Curtola: And then Shaun comes in and power loops like eight times, so. [00:07:00] He beat me at my own challenge. That's good. Shaun Taylor: I was chasing you, dog. Colby Curtola: You went in there and cut [00:09:00] the thread, pop the head out. Shaun Taylor: It was so perfect. My battery's dead. You got good stuff. Colby Curtola: Can't do anything like that. All right, [00:09:30] let's go to the campsite. Zoe Stumbaugh: After a really long day's shooting, we all need to blow off some steam. Shaun Taylor: So after the campsite, you know we got settled in and we all decided as a team to go to a park. And I could finally release my [00:10:00] true specialty of the dark side, which is racing. Colby Curtola: Shaun, you know he's a racer at heart. We've been doing a lot of challenges that don't involve racing so he just told us you know, "I got to go out and race. I don't care if there's gates or whatever." He just needs some trees and a park so we went and burned a few packs, to a little racetrack. Zoe Stumbaugh: It was so soul [00:10:30] fulfilling to be able to go out to a park. It was just basically any park. You would see this park in your own home city, this is a park you'll find anywhere. And for us, as pilots, just to go out there and kill batteries at one of these parks is so freaking awesome. Shaun Taylor: The Jedi just weren't prepared for this type of a racecourse. And I basically start off, you hit some very tight [chicanes 00:10:58]. Which leads you into this [00:11:00] up and over of this 80 foot tall tree into a straight down dive. That'll put us up for a big straightaway through a couple of split trees, into a lazy left. Along the inside of a street into about a, I don't know, 80 meter distance straightaway, into a hairpin left. And that'd be the lap. I kind of caught Colby Wan off guard a little bit. But it's okay. You know, as much as I can't stand the Jedi, I'm always here to help a fellow brother pod-racer. Colby Curtola: Kept up with [00:11:30] him for a little bit. But then after he kind of learned the track, he was just blowing by me. But he taught me a few tricks on how to dive through trees so it was a fun evening, fun end of the day. Zoe Stumbaugh: I did some loop [inaudible 00:11:50] stuff where I was literally bouncing my pod upside down off the ground. I think I actually hit a tree head on too, which was kind of unfortunate [00:12:00] but thankfully my pod was okay. Shaun Taylor: We opened up later on after the racing for some more freestyle ish type stuff. I can't help my training regimen of trying to push the envelope with tight gaps and chicanes so I decided to try to go between this little foot tall post in the fence. I think I crashed once but I was able to chicane it quite a bit. I was getting pretty good flow, pretty good speed through it. Zoe Stumbaugh: That [00:12:30] place was just so much fun, to be able to just go out and relax and kill a few batteries. Trey Player: Next episode, the pods come out for one final race in Moab's deadly canyons. [inaudible 00:12:45]
