Located primarily in Venezuela but with a quarter of its drainage basin in neighboring Colombia, the Orinoco is the fourth-largest river in the world by discharge volume. The delta of the river covers much of an entire state of Venezuela, the appropriately-named Delta Amacuro. The river empties into the Gulf of Paria, an inlet of the southern Caribbean Sea formed by the Venezuelan mainland and the island of Trinidad.
