The bay is created by an extension of the Eyre Peninsula, which lies a bit to the west of the city of Adelaide in the state of South Australia. Coffin Bay is a recreational boater's dream, with numerous coves and other protected areas for enjoying the beautiful and ever-present Australian sunshine. The land forming the western and southern edges of the bay forms part of Coffin Bay National Park.
