Chiapas is the southernmost of the 31 states which make up the country of Mexico. It has a long coastline with Guatemala, longer in fact than its borders with neighboring Mexican states. It's a land of lush rainforests and spectacular waterfalls, with a culture that has retained some of its pre-Columbian elements. For these reasons, it's considered one of the top eco-tourist destinations in Mexico.
