The Chartrain Dam, also known as the La Tâche Dam, is a historic structure located in Renaison, in the Loire department of the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region. Built between 1888 and 1891, this cut-stone arch dam is one of the oldest in France. It stands 51 meters high and stretches 221 meters in length, with a storage capacity of 3.6 million cubic meters of water.

Surrounded by lush forests, the site offers spectacular panoramas, particularly from the viewpoints accessible via marked trails. Below, picnic areas provide a relaxing break in the shade of century-old trees.

Near the dam stands the "Douglas Président," a Douglas fir planted in 1892 during the dam's construction. Recognized as the tallest tree in France, it reaches a height of 66.44 meters and continues to grow by approximately 25 cm per year.

The Chartrain Dam plays a crucial role in supplying drinking water to the Roanne region, contributing to the development and well-being of surrounding communities.
