Balaclava, Crimea

The Russian town of Balaklava is located just south of Sevastopol, the main city of the Crimean Peninsula on the Black Sea.   Seen here in this dronie shot by contributor leofacker, Balaclava is a storied name by virtue of the bloody battle which occurred here in October, 1854, during the early phase of the Crimean War.  The disastrous charge by a British formation against well-prepared Russian defenses was immortalized by the great English poet Lord Tennyson in his narrative poem, The Charge of the Light Brigade.
