AirVūz News: World of Drones 04/05/21
Published 04/05/2021 07:42Welcome to the “World of Drones” your weekly news show for all things drone related. We’re kicking this week off with a few stories of drones being used for good.
A couple stranded on the side of a canyon in Utah were rescued with the help of a drone. The couple that was hiking in Weber County called 911 after they were not comfortable coming back down the canyon due to the dangerous snow and ice that had blocked their path. The Weber County Sheriff’s Office soon deployed a DJI Matrice 300 RTK with a Zenmuse H20T camera attached and found the couple within moments. It was determined that a helicopter extraction would be necessary and the couple was safely rescued.
We’ve got another drone rescue story coming to us from China’s Tianyuan District. A woman with intellectual and mental disabilities wandered off and became lost while picking tea with her sister. The tea field was surrounded by thick vegetation, making it difficult for an on-foot search. After 3 days of looking, the Tianyuan District Emergency Rescue Volunteer Team put a DJI Matrice 300 in the air and found the woman within 20 minutes with the use of thermal technology. The ground team was then sent out to rescue her and luckily she was brought back to safety in good health.
These are just 2 examples of the many drone rescues that happen each year. To date, according to DJI’s Drone Rescues Map, drones have helped save 575 lives around the globe.
There has been another record-breaking drone show! This one put on by Hyundai’s luxury vehicle brand Genesis to announce their arrival in China. The car brand used 3,281 drones to create its logo over Shanghai’s skyline which set the new Guinness World Record for “The Most Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs) airborne simultaneously.” This tops the previous record held by Shenzhen Camoda Intelligent Control Technology which used 3,051 drones back in September.
Now it’s time to announce the final Top 5 drone videos from March and name one the ‘Drone Video of the Week’:
