AirVūz News: World of Drones 11/02/20
Published 11/02/2020 08:52Welcome to the "World of Drones" your weekly news fix on all things drone related.
It looks like photos of the new DJI Mini 2 were leaked over the weekend. Here’s what we know so far from the photos and specs that first appeared on the WinFuture site: the Mini 2 will support 4K footage, while it has a smaller battery, it boasts a flight time of 31 minutes, it can fly at a max altitude of 4000 meters or almost 2 ½ miles AND it weighs in at 249 grams, which makes it under the FAA’s threshold for UAVs that need to be registered. The Mini 2 is set to take off this week on November 4th.
rone shows seem to be a new popular form of entertainment. Check out the latest one that took over the sky in Pine Knob, Michigan for a music video. An artist that goes by the name VWLS created the giant light show for the song “High in Heaven” performed by Josh Epstien and Louie Louie. The graphic design of the larger than life face was based on recordings captured of the vocalists, then choreographed and programmed by Cinema 4D entertainment. In the final music video the footage was sped up 500% to make up for how slow the drones were moving in real life during the actual performance to meet the limitations placed by the FAA. The possibilities are seemingly endless for this new form of drone entertainment and we’re excited to see where a drone show will pop up next!
Aeronautical engineers at the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology Lausanne have designed a birdlike drone with feathered wings that can extend and retract. Researchers at the EPFL studied the northern goshawk and modeled the drone to look and function more like the bird. It uses one motor versus a quadcopter’s four and can glide to save energy. Unlike other fixed-wing aircrafts, this drone can also make quick turns, dives and perform maneuvers. The drone’s applications would include reconnaissance missions or search and rescue.
