Muzaffarabad is the largest city in Azad Jammu and Kashmir, a largely self-governing region which represents the western portion of the larger historical region of Kashmir that is divided between India and Pakistan. Located near the confluence of the Jhelum and Neelum Rivers, Muzaffarabad was heavily damaged during the 2005 Kashmir Earthquake that killed tens of thousands of people in the area.
