AV News: Johnny FPV vs The New STR14 Formula 1 Racing Car

One of the best FPV Pilots in the world recently took to the race track with his drone. Johnny Shaer, better known in the drone world as Johnny FPV. Johnny FPV, was invited by Red Bull to a racetrack in Italy to see how his racing drone would stack up against the new STR14 Formula 1 Racing Car. “I mean, it was an incredible experience. I was basically using my FPV race drones to try and drone an F1 car in preparation for the new F1 season." - Johnny Shaer The goal of the day was to get exciting, never before captured action shots of the new F1 Car. “Alright, here we go" - Johnny Shaer But right out of the gate, things didn't go exactly as planned. "What the f*ck." - Johnny Shaer “Early on in the day I took off, was getting ready. The car was about to swing by that area, I was getting really pumped, my heart started going and then I lost my eye, lost the visual. There was some interference. So the drone came crashing down, that definitely sucked." - Johnny Shaer After changing the game plan Johnny hopped in a chase car with a pro driver, Alex Albon, to follow the F1 car in an attempt to film an entire lap. Riding at high speeds, Johnny was able to keep up with the F1 car and get fast-paced shots of the 2019 Challenger. But it wasn't easy... “To keep up with the F1 car even at its lowest speeds or near low speeds he needed to drive pretty crazy... So he’s flooring it we’re getting thrown back and forth i don’t know how well that comes across in the video but ya especially with the headset on, you're in two different places. So it's very like... they're clashing and it was definitely really hard." - Johnny Shaer While Johnny said it was definitely a challenge for him, he had an incredible time and has a new appreciation for F1 racing.
