The 2017 Boston Marathon is coming up soon and drones will be used for added security!
CyPhy, is the Massachusetts based drone company that will be undertaking the operation. You might remember them from AirVuz News, as we covered their first UPS drone delivery in 2016.
Now, CyPhy’s PARC drone will be aloft over the finish line for one of the world’s most prestigious marathon running events.
PARC is an acronym that stands for Persistent Aerial Reconnaissance and Communications.
The key word is Persistent, as the drone will be airborne for long periods of time thanks to the fact that it’s tethered to a power supply, rather than relying on batteries.
The live video feed is also fed through the hardline cable to the command center, so it is much more secure and reliable than wireless means.
It is equipped with a 30 times zoom lens to focus on any suspicions action, and can fly in all weather conditions.
It’s not CyPHy’s first marathon, they provided similar services for the Tokyo Marathon in February 2016.
The Boston Marathon is expected to have more than 30,000 runners and as many as 1 million spectators.
