At AirVuz, we heard that even though Nantucket is known as a popular summer getaway, it's also one of the top places to visit for the holidays. We decided to come to the island to see how they get decked out for Christmas.
In an effort to keep residents on the island to do their holiday shopping, townspeople came up with the Christmas Shoppers' Stroll. The first full weekend in December, the island transforms into a winter wonderland. Local shop owners keep their stores open late and now, in it's 43rd year the Stroll brings over 10,000 visitors to the island from all over the world.
Hundreds of 7 foot tall Christmas trees line the streets of the historic downtown. A 20 foot tree sits at the end of main street and magically talks to visitors during the Stroll. Carolers fill the streets singing holiday tunes and a town crier brings everyone to the warf to meet Santa and Mrs. Clause who are escorted in by the Coast Guard.
