Link to FAA's Request- https://www.federalregister.gov/documents/2017/10/11/2017-21878/request-for-emergency-processing-of-collection-of-information-by-the-office-of-management-and-budget Here at AirVuz, we're watching some big news for drone pilots looking to fly in restricted airspace. If the F-A-A has it's way, it could get a lot easier to do. In a federal request, the F-A-A, says it needs an emergency action, to help process the thousands of requests by drone pilots to fly in places that are normally off-limits. Right now- the F-A-A lists several problems: Reports of safety incidents now average 250 a month- up 50 percent from last year. Requests made directly to air traffic control towers are overwhelming those workers. And- it's taking 60 to 90 days to process those requests... Leading to a backlog of thousands of them. The end result says the F-A-A, people are flying without permission. Now, the agency wants to set up a system to help streamline it all. They're calling it the 'Low Altitude Authorization and Notification Capability'. Here's the big thing- they say the system would process a request to fly in restricted airspace in about five minutes. The current process takes months. The system has been in the works for several months. The F-A-A's request would really speed up the process of getting it up and running. There's a link to the F-A-A's request in the body of this story.
