Exploring -50°C Weather: Traveling for Unique Experiences in Mongolia
AIRVŪZ STAFF NOTE :
Explore the Central Asian republic of Mongolia in winter through this fantastic travel video by top AirVuz contributor BaBi. Created with drone footage supplemented with ground camera shots, the video will take you around this mysterious country, which has only in recent years become generally accessible to tourists. Much of the video was filmed over the frozen Lake Khövsgöl, Mongolia's largest freshwater body, which covers over 1,000 square mi. (nearly 2.8k square km) in the northern part ofthe country.

Mongolia's winter indeed appears to be a unique and charming travel destination! From the unfrozen streams of the Jargant River to the warm encounters in the Tsaatan reindeer village, and the thrilling experience of riding a sled on the frozen surface of Lake Khövsgöl, each experience adds to the special allure of winter travel. Even amidst the bone-chilling temperatures of -50°C along the Jargant River, it's astonishing that the river doesn't freeze over completely. This unique phenomenon adds an extra layer of intrigue to an already captivating winter landscape. The juxtaposition of such extreme cold with the flowing water creates a surreal and unforgettable experience for travelers. The mystical scenery of the Jargant River, with its blue grass still growing even in winter, is said to resemble a scene from a fairy tale, and its beauty is truly impressive. Meeting the Tsaatan people and experiencing their traditional nomadic lifestyle while spending time with reindeer is sure to create unforgettable memories. And what about the winter landscape of Lake Khövsgöl? With its depth reaching 138 meters, the lake freezes with about 100cm of ice in winter, making it an exhilarating adventure to walk on or ride a sled across the ice. It truly seems like a scene from a winter wonderland. It's important to note that while flying drones in such extreme conditions, like those along the Jargant River where temperatures plummet to -50°C, there can be unexpected challenges. Despite careful preparation, drone operators may encounter battery errors, leading to potential accidents. In one instance, a drone experienced a battery error and dropped from a height of 55 meters. Thankfully, it landed in the snow, minimizing damage to the drone itself. However, this serves as a reminder of the unpredictable nature of winter conditions and the importance of taking precautions when operating equipment in such environments. A winter trip to Mongolia seems filled with unique and captivating adventures that can only be experienced during the winter months. Despite the cold weather, preparing with warm winter attire for this journey will provide a perfect opportunity to truly appreciate the enchantment of winter. I highly recommend experiencing this charming winter travel adventure!
