Luenersee

AIRVŪZ STAFF NOTE : AirVuz contributor cristian.gerard brings us this excellent drone video of a prominent lake in Austria. It's called the Lünersee, and it's located in the town of Bludenz in Vorarlberg, the tiny state at the country's western tip. Less than a mile long (about 1.5 km), the lake is extremely deep - 456 ft. or about 140 m. It's actually about twice as deep as it was prior to the construction of a hydroelectric dam in the 1950's, which uses the lake as a reservoir. The lake is less than a mile from the Swiss border.

The Lünersee, once one of the largest natural mountain lakes in the Eastern Alps, is 1,970 m above sea level. It is located at the end of Brandnertal, but belongs to the Vandans municipality in the Montafon. Families, mountain fanatics and nature lovers can find plenty on offer here. The Lünersee is the starting point for many hikes, including that up to the Schesaplana, the highest mountain in the Rätikon.
