The Best of Central Europe by Drone

Two-time Drone Video Award Winner and 2020 New York City Drone Film Festival Multi-Finalist Timelab.Pro brings us this masterpiece from western Switzerland.  The video features stunning footage of spots throughout the region known variously as Romandy and French-Speaking Switzerland.  Opening with shots of the mighty Bernese Alps, the piece then takes you to the giant glacier-fed Émosson Dam, the great Chillon Castle on (the also glacial-fed) Lake Geneva; from there you'll head to the lake's namesake city; the de facto regional capital . 

For a first upload to AirVuz, new contributor miromarsik brings us this stunning drone video from the Czech Republic.  The video features fantastic footage of some of the country's fabled rivers, forests, and mountains.  Recognizable spots include the Novina Viaduct in the Krystofovo Valley, at the :55 mark; the mountaintop Ještěd Tower (1:15); the 14th century Moravian Bouzov Castle (1:33); the Gothic masterpiece Karlštejn Castle, built on the orders of Holy Roman Emperor Charles IV (1:40), and more.  

Brand-new AirVuz contributor and pilot GTDRONE brings us this DVOW winning demo reel from Poland.  The reel features a great mix of landscape and action shots from across this giant Central European country.  It contains footage from the length and breadth of Poland, ranging from the sand spits of the country's northern coast on the Baltic Sea, to the plains which cover much of northern interior Poland, to the snow-covered peaks of the Carpathian Mountains in the southern part of the country.

Top AirVuz contributor and pilot Dronographer brings us this stunning drone video of Austria's Wachau Valley.  Crossed by the Danube River, the Wachau is one of the most popular destinations in Lower Austria, the northeastern region of this Central European country.  The video, which won Drone Video of the Week, features footage from the following locations in Wachau, which has been inhabited since Prehistoric times: Krems an der Donau, Melk, the Benedictine Göttweig Abbey, Weißenkirchen in the Wachau, Dürnstein Castle, and more.  

Top AirVuz contributor and drone pilot Zdronu brings us this DVOW nominated aerial film of Bratislava, the capital of Slovakia.  The video opens with a shot of the Most SNP Bridge over the River Danube, then cuts to the Bratislava Wheel on the river bank.  At the :15 mark, you'll see the gilded Hungarian Crown above St. Martin's Church, followed by the Kamzík TV Tower.  Other locations include the Bratislava Town Hall (:37), the hilltop Bratislava Castle (:51), the Apollo Bridge (:57), the modern skyscraper district (1:17), and more.

The literally glowing beauty of Poland's capital Warsaw in the evening hours is showcased brilliantly by content creator and drone pilot Damian, earning him a Drone Video of the Week nomination for this video. The city, once known as the "Paris of the East", literally rose from the ashes after being nearly destroyed in World War II.  Today, the city on the Vistula has seen much of its Old City restored to pre-war condition and has sprouted a thoroughly modern skyline alongside its historical core.  

Multiple Drone Video of the Week Winner oculusfilms brings us this stunning drone video from the famed Swiss town of Zermatt.  Located in the canton of Valais, near the Italian border, Zermatt is surrounded by some of the highest peaks of the Alps, including Monte Rosa and the Matterhorn.  Zermatt is the most important town in the Mattertal (Matter Valley), which is just south of the Rhône Valley.  It is generally considered to be one of Europe's most famous spots for mountaineering and skiing.  

The Julian Alps is a mountain range which extends from northern Italy westwards into Slovenia.  A sub-range of the larger Alps system, their  highest peak is Mt. Triglav, which stands 2.9k meters (9.4k ft) and lies in Slovenia's Triglav National Park.  In this video, contributor Jus Medic and a friend took a drone and hiked to the top of Dolkova Spica, a slightly smaller mountain in Slovenia, capturing Mt. Triglav in the distance.   The epic aerial views of the Slovenian mountains are spectacular.  

Multiple Drone Video of the Week Winner and Drone Video Award Finalist HikeTheWorld brings us this fantastic travel video of 35 of the best places to see in Slovakia.  Running nearly 30 minutes in length, the video includes footage of the following spots: the Súľov Rocks, Orava Castle, Devínska Kobyla mountain, the Haluzicka Tiesnava nature preserve, the village of Zázrivá, the town of Bardejov, the village of Osturňa, Spiš Castle, the town of Banská Štiavnica, Lednica Castle, Stará Ľubovňa Castle, the village of Špania Dolina, and more. 

These stunning drone views of Switzerland by multiple Drone Video of the Week/Month Winner davidaguilar are some of the best we've seen.  The opening shots feature some magnificent aerial views of some of the country's lakes and waterfalls.  Other footage will take you over green valleys, towering mountain ridges, and other sights of the High Alps.  The video concludes with some amazing footage of the Aletsch Glacier.  The mighty ice sheet runs through a portion of the Bernese Alps and is the largest glacier in Europe.  

Contributor Axlfro created this beautiful DVOW nominated video from a trip down the Danube River, the second-longest waterway in Europe after the Volga River.  The video features footage from the upper half of the 2.85k km (almost 1.8k km) river.  This portion of the river includes territory in Germany (where the river rises, in the Black Forest), through Austria and into Hungary.  The mighty river passes through (or borders) four other countries before discharging into the Black Sea in Romania.  

You can see why top content creator and pilot Muhamad AbuShakra calls Switzerland the most beautiful country in Europe after watching this drone video. He spent nine days in the country taking his drone through the snow covered Swiss Alps, over the turquoise blue lake, through the quaint villages and beyond. Featured locations include Iseltwald, Appenzell, Steinsee, Faroglio, Ascher, Ticino, Grindelwald, Lauterbrunnen, the Trift Bridge, and more.  This video won the Drone Video of the Week award in July of 2019.

Krakow is Poland's "second city" after Warsaw.  It's situated in southern Poland, at the base of the Carpathian Mountains.  Having survived World War II with less physical damage than Warsaw, it is arguably the most important cultural and historical city in the country.  AirVuz star contributor iDrone Aerials used a DJI Mavic Pro drone to take us on an incredible aerial tour of this ancient city.  The Old Town of Krakow, shown in the video, has been designated a UNESCO World Heritage cultural site.  

Top contributor Muhamad AbuShakra used a DJI Mavic Pro 2 to create this spectacular aerial video of some of the most beautiful alpine scenery in Europe.   It was shot in the course of a weeklong trip through the Northern Limestone Alps of Bavaria in southern Germany and Tyrol in western Austria.  These peaks, which reach up to about 3k meters (about 10k ft.) are as spectacular as the taller mountains of the Pennine and Graian Alps to the south and west. This was a DVOW winner in May, 2019.

One of the amazing things about DJI's Mavic Pro 2 is the way it combines portability with an outstanding camera. Released in late 2018, the foldable drone weighs less than a kg. (about two lbs.), yet its Hasselbad camera holds its own against cameras on much heavier models.  This allows content creators to put their MP2 in a backpack and head for the hills.  That's what Drone My Life did to create this stunning sunset view of the mountains of Switzerland; this video was picked as a DVOW winner in October, 2019.

Prepare to be blown away by these stunning drone views from the Czech Republic.  The first part of the video features some epic aerials of the country's famously wooded and hilly landscape.  Cultural highlights include Bezděz Castle, one of the most famous Gothic style hilltop castles (at the :50 mark); Karlštejn Castle, founded by Holy Roman Empeor Charles IV in the 14th century (around the 1:20 mark); the medieval Central Bohemian town of Kutná Hora (at the 1:45 mark); and the St. John's Pilgrimage Church (2:20).  

Top AirVuz contributor timroosjen brings us this stunning drone video from the Central European country of Slovenia.  The video includes footage from the following locations, all of which are in the northwestern part of the country: Lake Bled, a beautiful alpine lake in the Julian Alps; the Church of St. Tomaz, in the town of Jamnik; the Church of St. Primož and Felicijan, also in Jamnik; the town of Kranjska Gora, near Triglav National Park; the mountain plateau of Velika Planina; Vintgar Gorge; Savica Waterfall; and the Soča River.

For a first upload to AirVuz, new contributor and professional drone piloting company K&P studio put together this fantastic reel showing highlights of their work over the course of 2019.  The reel features a mix of urban, landscape, real estate, commercial, action sequences, and "people" shots including some excellent wedding-related footage.  Most of the footage was captured in Hungary, including an epic shot of the Hungarian Parliament building on the Danube River at around the 1:20 mark.  

Top contributor HikeTheWorld created this highly cinematic video from the Carpathian Mountains of Slovakia. The great mountain chain forms an arc which begins just east of Vienna, Austria and covers the northern part of Slovakia, serving as the country's natural northern boundary with Poland. Filmed during the winter using both drone and ground camera footage, the video captures the beauty of this alpine region during what some consider to be its most picturesque season. This video was a DVOW nominee in February 2020.

Check out these magnificent drone views of the mountains of southern Poland, compliments of AirVuz contributor and pilot JanuszKurek.  The Tatra Mountains represent the natural boundary between Poland and Slovakia.  A subchain of the Carpathian Mountains, the Tatra's are home to some of Poland's finest natural scenery.  The video features footage of the peak known as Mnih (the Monk), Szpiglasowa Przełęcz, Szpiglasowy Wierch, Dolina 5 Stawów Polskich (The Valley of Five Polish Lakes), and Kasprowy Wierch.

For centuries up until World War I, Vienna was (with Paris and St. Petersburg) one of the three grandest cities of Europe.  Heavily damaged late in World War II but later restored, Vienna remains one of the continent's top cultural centers.  In this outstanding drone video by Dronographer, you'll see some highlights of the great city on the Danube, including Maria-Theresien-Platz, the Hofburg Palace, the Albertina Museum, Belvedere Castle, St.. Stephens Cathedral, St. Francis of Assisi Church, St. Charles Church, and more. 

Drone in tow, contributor Phil2go2019 and his son took their dog Akiro into the foothills of the Alps mountains along the German/Austrian border.  Their footage was used to create this stunning video, which was picked as a DVOW Finalist in October, 2019.  The region filmed is known as the Allgäu, which covers a portion of the German state of Bavaria as well as parts of Austria's Tyrol and Vorarlberg states.  Situated a bit east of Lake Constance, the region features peaks of up to about 2k meters or around 6.6k ft.
