Drone Videos of Southeastern China

Contributor Gareth Hayman created this stunning drone video of some of the best skyline views in China (including its Hong Kong territory).  The flying technique and framing, combined with the resolution quality of the shots make for one spot on video. Views of Hong Kong's Quarry Bay, Shanghai's World Financial Center, Canton Tower in Guangzhou, and dozens of other famous skyscrapers can be seen from a variety of angles in this brilliant piece. This piece was a Drone Video of the Week Nominee in 2019.

Two-time DVA Winner Timelab.pro does it again with this absolutely magnificent piece from Hong Kong. Filmed using a DJI Zenmuse X7 mounted to an Inspire 2 drone, this is some of the best aerial footage of the great city we've ever seen. The video kicks off with some spectacular footage of the city's skyline, generally considered to be the world's most prominent due to the number of tall buildings here. Then the action shifts to show the massive container port here just as the sun is rising. This video earned a nomination at the 6th Annual NYCDFF.

Top contributor Haussmannvisuals created this memorable 60 second aerial tour of Guangzhou in southern China.  It's the capital of the province of the same name, the largest in the country by population and in many respects its economic dynamo.  It's also home to some of the world's tallest buildings.  In the video you'll see some epic footage of the 111 floor, 530 meter (about 1.7k ft.) CTC Financial Center (#6 in the world at year-end 2018), the Guangzhou IFC (439 meter, 1.45k ft.), and more.

This drone video of Shenzen, China by contributor and pilot caldina3188 was nominated for the Drone Video of the Week in July, 2019.  Comparatively not well known outside of China, Shenzen is the country's fourth-largest city after Shanghai, Beijing, and Guangzhou.  Like Guangzhou, Shenzen is situated on the great Pearl River Delta in the southeastern part of the country.  Shot at night, the video features some amazing footage of the city's skyscrapers as well as the Eiffel Tower replica at its Window of the World Theme Park.  

High above the karst peaks that line the Li River, contributor haussmannvisuals reveals the beauty of Yangshuo in Guilin, China.  The iconic topography of this county are often seen in calligraphic ink paintings but this drone footage takes the remarkable scenery to a whole new level.  Situated in the Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region in southeastern China, Guilin was a filming location for Star Wars Episode III: Revenge Of The Sith (2005); it "played the role" of  the Wookiee planet Kashyyyk.

China's Pingtan Island is located off the coast of its Fujian Province in the southeastern part of the country.  China's fifth largest island by land area, it's also the closest spot to Tapei, the capital of Taiwan.  It is now connected to the mainland via a bridge that was completed in 2010.  By virtue of its position, the island marks the dividing line between the East China Sea and the South China Sea.  Contributor jojodidi used a DJI Mavic Pro drone to create this aerial video of the beautiful island.  

China's largest island (not including Taiwan, which is not under the country's control at present) is Hainan, which lies off the coast of the Guanxi Province.  It's the largest of a group of islands which comprise the Province of Hainan, which was part of the province of Guangzhou until 1988.  The island's second largest city is Sanya, which lies at its southern tip.  In this drone video created by contributor Bunlee, you'll get a bird's eye view of Sanya, now a major beach tourist destination.  

New contributor Arhan brings us this excellent DVOW nominated drone video of Hong Kong.  The first extended shot sequence will show you the Bank of China tower, followed by the International Finance Center (the city's second-tallest) and the adjacent Hong Kong Observation Wheel in the Central Harborfront.  Starting at about the :54 mark, you'll see a container terminal in the city's harbor.  Other sites include the Tsang Ma Bridge followed by the Stonecutters Bridge (starting at 1:17), Central Plaza (1:36), and more.     

Contributor JohnnyWong created this drone video of the Hong Kong–Zhuhai–Macau Bridge, one of the world's largest infrastructure investments.  It's actually not a single bridge but three bridges, an underwater tunnel, and a series of artificial islands.  It connects the cities of Hong Kong and Macau, the two main cities at the mouth of the Pearl River estuary, both of which are semi-autonomous regions within China.  The span was completed in early 2018, and cost nearly US $20 billion to build.  

Contributor and pilot Akio Matsutani brings us this phenomenal drone video of Laozhai Shan, an area of southeastern China.  It's near the city of Hezhou in the northeastern corner of the Guangxi province, in its mountainous interior.  Guangxi is the southernmost of China's coastal provinces.  It's located to the south of Guangzhou, and has a long border with Vietnam to the south.  This part of the country lies at the crossroads between South China and Indonchina, and has cultural elements of both regions.  

The Pearl River Delta, which includes the central part of China's Guangdong province as well as the semi-autonomous cities of Hong Kong and Macau, is home to one of the world's 3-4 most important urban concentrations.  One of the cities on the Delta is Dongguan.  It's the third largest of the Delta cities on the mainland, after Guangzhou (immediately to its south) and Shenzen.  In this drone video by top contributor Droneland, you can get a bird's eye view of this impressive city of over 8 million.

Qiandao Lake is an artificial body of water in Zhejiang, a province in the southern half of China's eastern coastline.  The lake was created as part of a giant hydroelectric project undertaken by the Maoist government in the 1950s.  The project interrupts the river's flow towards Hangzhou Bay and created not only a lake but a lake with literally thousands of (mostly tiny) islands.  Sometimes called Thousand Islands Lake, you can see it here from above in this drone video by contributor Jose M. Aillon.  

Top contributor T-christ-T brings us this fantastic aerial video of some oil and gas drilling activities in the South China Sea off of the Chinese coast.  A major inlet of the Pacific Ocean, the South China Sea is formed by the mainland of southeastern China, Indochina, the Malay Peninsula, the giant islands of Sumatra and New Guinea, the Philippines, and Formosa.  In recent years, China has led the development of offshore drilling unlock the SCS's hydrocarbon resources, estimated at billions of recoverable barrels of oil equivalents.  

One of the astonishing things about the Pearl River Delta in China is how many large cities are packed into a relatively small space.  In this video by top contributor Droneland, you'll get a bird's eye view of the city of Zhuhai, which sits near the mouth of the great estuary, just north of Macau.  A city of about 1.5 million inhabitants, it's known in part as a tourist destination and is sometimes called the Chinese Riviera.  It's also known for its iconic white opera house, featured prominently in the video.  

In this amazing aerial video by contributor Droneland, you'll get a tour-by-drone of China's great Pearl River Delta.  The estuary of China's third largest river is home to over a hundred million people and for decades has been one of the world's most important economic regions.  The area explored is that beyond (inland) from Hong Kong, which sits at the northern mouth of the river's mouth.  This is Guangzhou Province, whose largest cities (Guangzhou and Shenzen) are amongst the largest in the country.  

Hong Kong enjoys a special status within the People's Republic of China, to whose control the city was transferred in 1997.  Since March of 2019, Hong Kong has seen a series of protests aimed at a new law that facilitates extradition to the mainland.  In this remarkable drone video by top contributor Droneland, you'll get a bird's eye view of one of these large gathering as it was disbursed by security forces. This video won the Narrative/Documentary category at the 6th Annual New York City Drone Film Festival.

Award-winning panvelvet brings us this fantastic drone video from the top of one of the world's highest skyscrapers.  Located in the city of Shenzen in the southern state of Guangdong, 115 story Ping An Center stands 555 meters at the roof (just over 1.8k ft.).  At the time of its completion in 2017, it was China's second-tallest building and the fourth-tallest in the world.  The video features jaw-dropping shots of some very brave individuals standing at the tower's apex.  Shenzen is China's fourth-largest city as of 2022.  

Measured by the number of tall buildings, Hong Kong has the largest skyline in the world.  The city's skyscrapers are spread throughout the city - on Hong Kong Island, the Kowloon Peninsula, and along much of the shoreline of Victoria Harbor.  In this marvelous drone video by contributor Haussmanvisuals, you'll get a great aerial tour of the most vertical parts of the 430 square miles of the city.   This video was picked as a Finalist in the Cities category for the 2nd annual Drone Video Awards.

While China's giant Guangdong Province is best known for its cities such as Guangdong and Shenzen, it's not an entirely urban landscape.  In this drone video by top contributor Droneland, you'll get a bird's eye view of the provinces Conghua District, the northernmost of the 11 which make up China's most populous province.  In contrast to the flatness which characterizes much of the province, Conghua is an area where the flatness of the Pearl River Delta gives way to the mountains of the interior.   

Top contributor and pilot Droneland created this beautiful drone video of Macau, one of the most dynamic cities of Southeast Asia.  Situated at the mouth of the Pearl River across from Hong Kong, Macau has emerged as the world's gaming capital - its annual gaming take is now about 3x that of Las Vegas.  The former Portuguese colony has long had a freewheeling culture.  It "stood in" for 1930's Shanghai in the blockbuster movie Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom (1984), the second in the series.  

Known for its mountains and coastal cities, Fujian is a southeastern Chinese province. Fujian tulou are Chinese rural dwellings unique to the Hakka people who have lived in the areas for centuries. These homes were mostly built between the 12th and 20th centuries, and 46 of them were inscribed as UNESCO World Heritage sites in 2008. Contributor and pilot Eugene_NG uses his DJI Spark to capture drone footage of Fujian tulou in this stunning video from the province once visited by Marco Polo.  

The power of the DJI Mavic Pro 2 is on full display here in this epic video of Shenzhen, China, compliments of contributor Caldina3188.  The focus of the video is on two of the tallest skyscrapers in this gigantic city on the Pearl River Delta.  The taller of the two is the 100 story KK100 building; at 442 meters (a little over 1.4k ft.), it's #2 in Shenzen and #14 in the world as of early 2019.  The other building featured is the twin-spired Shun Hing Square; now #5, this 69 story tower was the city's tallest from 1996-2011.

Top contributor Droneland created this fascinating drone video of a large but still largely unknown city on China's Pearl River Delta: Foshan.  It's situated to the south and a bit west of Guanzhou City, the capital of China's most populous province.  By the standards of most part of the world, Foshan would be a major city - it's population is a bit over 7 million as of 2018.  However, it's less than half the size of Shenzen and about a third the size of Guangzhou City.  

This video from contributor Aerial Entertainment Studios will give you an incredible aerial view of the areas of Guanxi, a province in the southeastern corner of China.  The area is steeped in history, having served as the crossroads between China and Vietnam to its south.  The centerpiece of the video is stunning aerial footage of the regions of Guilin and Yangshuo.  Known for their karst rock landscapes and iconic looking towns, both of these cultural treasures have been designated as UNESCO World Heritage sites.

Shenzhen, the southeastern city in China, can be seen from above in this remarkable, 4K drone video by pilot caldina3188. Using the DJI Mavic 2 Pro, the pilot explores the modern metropolis that links Hong Kong to mainland China. He’ll heavily feature a few, prominent skyscrapers including the 1,449 foot (441,8 meter) tall KK100 (formerly known as Kingkey 100 and Kingkey Finance Tower) building, and the 1,260 foot (384 meter) tall Shun Hing Square hotel (also known as “Di Wang Tower”). 

Former Drone Video of the Week/Month Winner davetke2002 brings us this magnificent nighttime aerial video of China's Canton Tower, one of the world's tallest.  Located in the great southern city of Guangzhou, it stands just under 2k ft. tall (just over 600 m), and was briefly the world's tallest observation tower when it opened in 2009 in anticipation of the 2010 Asia Games.  Recognizable by its unusual hyperboloid design, Canton Tower features numerous observation decks, restaurants, TV and radio transmission facilities, and more.  

Check out these stunning aerial views of a mountain range in Southeastern China, compliments of jojodidi.  It's the Wuyi Mountains, which are located in Fujian, the province which lies just to the north of the province of Guangzhou.  The mountains are located in an inland part of Fujian, near the border with the landlocked Jiangxi province.  The unique geology of the area makes it one of the most popular tourist destinations in China, and the core of the range is now a UNESCO World Heritage Site.  

For an incredible view of the top of one of the world's tallest skyscrapers, you can't beat this drone video of Shenzen, China by former DVOW Finalist Caldina3188. This gigantic (although not the largest) city in China's Guangzhou Province lies at the head of Shenzen Bay, an inlet of the Pearl River estuary.  Much of the video is shot around (and over) the city's Ping An Center; completed in 2017, the 115 megatall stands 555 meters at the roof (just over 1.8k ft.) and is the world's fourth-tallest as of mid-2019.

Nansha is a district of China's Guangzhou City, the country's third-largest.  The district lies on the western side of the great Pearl River estuary, south of central city.  In this drone video by Droneland, you'll get an aerial tour of some of the more notable sights of Nansha, including the Nansha Tianhau Temple, Pu Chau Garden, the Nansha Garden Hotel, the Nansha Court Building, and the Humen Bridge.  Nansha is also home to the city's port, one of China's largest, which sits at the confluence of the city's three main rivers.  

Xiamen University is a top post-secondary educational institution in Southeastern China.  It's located at the south end of Xiamen Island, in the Fujian Province.   Established in 1921, the school currently enrolls about 21k students.  It's one of 36 universities classified as "Double A" under the central government's Double First-Class initiative to create a world-class secondary education system.  Seen here in this drone video by how.chou, the university's beautiful campus is a popular tourist attraction on the island.  

AirVuz contributor OceanAX created this amazing drone video compilation of the great city of Macau as the world's largest gambling center went through the Covid-19 pandemic in 2020.  The video features footage shot beginning in December, 2019, just before the city authorities issued their first warning about a possible infectious disease breakout, and running to April, 2020.  As you'll see, the city (a special administrative region of China) appears to be gradually coming back to life with the gradual rollback of social distancing measures.

Top AirVuz contributor Droneland brings us this excellent video from Guangzhou, one of the most important cities on the Pearl River Delta in Southeastern China.  The video was filmed over the city's Panyu District, which lies to the south of the Guangzhou city center, on the western side of the Shiziyang channel (part of the Pearl River Estuary).  Created with drone footage as well as ground camera shots, the video features some stunning top-down shots of Panyu, which was a separate city prior to bring absorbed by Guangzhou in 2000.  

Check out this drone video of a top tourist destination on the coast of Southeastern China, compliments of MariusMiginis.  It's the Xiaomeisha Sea World, an entertainment complex which opened in 1998 on a strip of coastline just east of Shenzen.  It's located just off of Xiaomeisha Beach on Mirs Bay, an area sometimes called the "Oriental Hawaii".  Xiaomeisha Sea World is China's leading marine-based theme park, and its attractions include multiple aquariums and a rail-based exhibition hall.  

Liemur Lissa created this marvelous drone video from Guangxi province in Southeastern China, home to some of China's most spectacular scenery.  The video features footage from the following locations (1) the city of Guilin, which sits on the Li River and is near the border with the province of Hunan to the north; (2) Yangshuo County, which lies to the southeast of Guilin and is famous for its karst limestone formations; (3) the rice terraces of Longjen County, which lies just to the north of Yangshuo.

Here's a nice aerial view of the Yunhe Rice Terraces in Southeastern China, compliments of jojodidi.  The terraces are located in Yunhe County, which sits in the inland (western) portion of Zhejiang, the coastal province immediately to the south of Shanghai.  These are the largest set of rice terraces in eastern China; there are up to 700 individual "layers" in places.  The terrace area covers just over 50 square km or just under 20 square mi.; the highest of them sit at about 1.4k meters or around 5.6k ft. above sea level. 

Check out this outstanding aerial tour of the Chinese-controlled city of Macau, compliments of caldina3188. Situated across the Zhujiang River Estuary from Hong Kong, this former Portuguese colony is the world's leading gambing city: Macau's gambling revenue was more than 4x the Las Vegas take in 2018.  The "star" of the video is the distinctively gold-roofed Grand Lisboa casino.  Opened in 2007, the 47-story complex stands just over 260 meters (856 ft.), making it the city's tallest by a wide margin.   

Shenzen is second largest city in the southern China province of Guangdong, the most populous province in the country.  A port city, Shenzen is situated on Shenzen Bay, which opens up onto the great river estuary to its west.  It lies just to the north of the Sham Chun River, across which lies the New Territories of Hong Kong.  In this video, contributor Droneland flies over this incredible city, including the landmark 115 story Ping An Center and the sleek white Shenzen Stadium.    

Contributor Johnnywong created this marvelous flyover of two of the tallest buildings in Shenzen, a city on the Pearl River Delta in southern China.  When the KK100 building was completed in 2011, the 100 story building was the city's tallest at 442 meters (just under 1.45k ft.).  The video also features the 69 story Shun Hing Square, the city's tallest from 1996 until being dethroned by the KK100.  In 2017, both were surpassed by the Ping An Tower, although the two remain amongst the country's 20 tallest.  

China's Guangzhou Province has been the epicenter of the country's spectacular economic rise since the early 1990's.  Situated in the southeastern part of the country, it's now home to the most people of any Chinese province, and the population swells by tens of millions each year due to migrant employees. It is closely connected to Hong Kong, which it effectively surrounds, and which has served to connect China to the outside world.  Droneland gives us an amazing aerial look at this dynamic province.

The Pearl River is the third of China's great rivers, on a par with the Yangtze and the Yellow River in its importance to the world's most populous country.  It arises from a complex system of tributaries that drain much of southern China and runs 2.4k km (1.5k mi.) to the Ghuanzhou province, forming a giant delta on the South China Sea.  In this video by Droneland, you'll get a bird's eye view of the mighty river as it runs through the Nansha area just south of the provincial capital Ghuangzhou City. 

Check out this short but still-amazing first person view (FPV) drone  video of Macau, courtesy of contributor and FPV pilot DarkBlueFpv. While control of the city reverted to China in the 1990's, the former Portuguese colony has retained much of its freewheeling culture which has led to its becoming the world's gaming capital.  Millions saw Macau for the first time when it was "playing the role" of Shanghai in the 1984 film Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom, the second in the Indiana Jones series.  

New AirVūz contributor and drone pilot KASH created this stunning aerial film of Hong Kong.  The video was filmed with a DJI Mavic 2 Pro and a DJI Mavic 2 Zoom, supplemented with ground camera footage.  Ride along for some incredible views of the city's skyscrapers, busy thoroughfares, and bustling harbor.  The video features footage both from Hong Kong Island as well as the Kowloon Peninsula, on the Asian mainland.  This video was picked as the Winner of the Drone Video of the Week in March of 2021.
