Drone Videos of Drift Cars

The one and only JohnnyFPV is truly a part of FPV history, and for obvious reasons.  He's the drone pilot who's equally adept in both exotic locations and high adrenaline environments, and so it's no surprise he was called upon to provided footage for a Dodge Super Bowl ad in late 2019. Watch as he catches all of the angles while the drift cars provide all of the smoke and craziness.  His articulate flying and ability to capture the exact energy of the scene make him truly an FPV Pilot to Watch on AirVuz. 

Drifting Teslas on a frozen lake in Sweden.  What could be finer?  Award-winning contributor ZilverSchmitz brings us this fantastic scene of the world's most sought-after electric cars racing through a drift course on a very frozen lake near Östersund, a town in the Jämtland region of north-central Sweden.  This iconic wintertime scene is a perfect backdrop to see how these battery-powered cars perform in a traction-deficient environment.  It makes for a very entertaining 60 second video, well worth a watch.

In this adrenaline-charged 60 seconds, Team AirVuz pilot Phluxyfpv made the most of a Minnesota winter reality: frozen lakes.  Watch as his quad chases some professional drift racers spinning around the white course while the GoPro captures all of the action.  Of course, Phluxy has no problem keeping up, considering he placed 3rd in the 2019 season of the Drone Racing League (DRL).  For this gem of an FPV video, we of course had to put him on our FPV Pilots to Watch in March 2020.

In this amazing video, contributor Memmi filmed a car drifting event at the Englishtown Raceway in Middlesex County, New Jersey.  Shot with a DJI Inspire 2 drone using a Zenmuse X7 camera, this was a finalist for the Drone Video of the Week Contest and was also a winner of the Drone Video of the Month Awards in July, 2018. In early 2019, it was picked as a Finalist in the Extreme Sports category for the second annual AirVuz Drone Video Awards.

Legendary first person view (FPV) drone pilot JohnnyFPV does it again! With promises of a good ol' fashioned face-melting, he kicks things off with some slow-mo action of his nimble quad flying through that thick tire smoke on the track below.  Keeping his racing drone in close proximity to the speeding drift cars, he shows absolutely no fear and has his expert-level flight skills on full display. The ultimate adrenaline-spiking way to race around a track can - and should - be paired up with a fast and nimble racing drone to capture the tire-squeeling, apex-hitting, full throttle views in epic form, and as you'll see in this vid, that's just what Gab707 did.  We're all feeling a bit more charged up and ready to face the wild world, now. Take a behind the scenes look with the one and only JohnnyFPV as he recaps a flight from late 2019.  The setting for the mayhem was Irwindale Speedway in southern California, which was hosting a Formula drift race and its last race of the season. Watch as he tracks these beasts of machines sliding around the track, throwing smoke and screaming while Johnny did his magic by providing an FPV livestream.  He worked his angles and pulled plenty of killer maneuvers to give us all yet another epic JohnnyFPV video.

Within the first few seconds of this FPV video, we’ll see a car balancing on its left two wheels. If that doesn’t leave you wanting to see more, we don’t know what will. Livyu FPV is taking us up close and personal behind the cars involved in this year’s Romania Drift Championship. This was the final run for the year so drivers really left it all out on the blacktop. Livyu FPV does an excellent job keeping pace with the rubber-burning race cars.

Check out this fantastic first person view (FPV) video from a racing quad chasing a drifting Porsche 911 GT3, compliments of AirVuz contributor and pilot Mroowa.  This rear-engine beast sports peak power output of 500 bhp, making it one of the fastest production vehicles.  It's part of one of the most storied lines in automotive history, the Porsche 911.  First rolled out in 1964, it's been consistently one of the world's most sought-after cars, even as it famously switched from an air-cooled to liquid-cooled design in the late 1990's.  

The proximity drone flying in this underground drift car race video is insane. Props go out to talented first person view (FPV) drone pilot Drone Race Studio for creating this epic, 4K piece that’s all about the chase with beginning-to-end, drift-car-by-FPV excitement. He’ll take us to Khon Kaen, one of the four major cities in the Isan region of eastern Thailand. Lying a bit under 300 mi. (about 450 km) northeast of Bangkok, the city is home to around two million people. 

JohnnyFPV has taken out his mini quad and is getting all the angles at a Formula Drift event in Orlando, Florida, USA. His proximity flying in this piece is no joke; at certain points in the flight, the professional drone pilot gets so close to the windows of the cars you think he’s going to either break the window or crash his quad and watch it shatter in a spectacular fashion. Leave it to Johnny to get just that much tighter and make drift chasing that much more dramatic. This video made the FPV Pilots to Watch list in May of 2019.

JohnnyFPV has done it again, blowing all of our expectations out of the water with this spectacular FPV video. The AirVuz FPV Drone Video of the Year Award Winner takes a ridiculous ride tracking Formula Drift racers around the blacktop and through the mountainside, taking in the burnouts and keeping up with some of the fastest, tightest cars in the world. As top AirVuz contributor and first person view (FPV) drone pilot Banner_Drones found out, it’s not as easy as one might think to get on a racing track with your mini quad. According to him, very few tracks in the Miami area will allow FPV drone pilots to fly around cars on their tracks. However, his skills and certifications got him out behind these drivers. He’ll take in the sharp corners, flying tight behind the drifting cars and ripping through the dirt being kicked up by his racing quad. 

Top AirVuz contributor and first person view (FPV) drone pilot Flylifeco earned a spot as a Drone Video of the Week Finalist and also on the FPV Pilots to Watch list in March of 2024 with this fantastic video of a drift car event near Houston, Texas.  Filmed with dual operators (a rare setup for FPV cinematography), the video captures the thrills at the first stop on the four-race circuit, which was held at the Speedsportz Racing Park in New Caney, a far northern Houston suburb, on March 9, 2024.   

Top AirVuz contributor and first person view (FPV) pilot coptercooperation earned a spot on the FPV Pilots to Watch list in May of 2023 with this outstanding FPV video from a drift car competition.  Modern drifting, in which cars "drift" across the pavement by deliberately oversteering into turns, originated in 1970's Japan.  Now an established form of motorsports, filming drift cars was extremely difficult prior to the advent of FPV drones, which are perfect for capturing the fast-moving (and often tire smoke-encased) cars.  

Enjoy these epic first person view (FPV) drone shots from a well-known car drifting event in Europe, compliments of top AirVuz contributor and FPV pilot martino_fpv.  The 2023 Volrace GT event was held in September, 2023 at the Ricardo Tormo Circuit in Cheste, a town in the eastern region of Valencia.  The six races held over the weekend featured some of the world's top drift car drivers.  This video was picked by the AirVuz editorial staff for the FPV Pilots to Watch list in October of 2023.
