Cambodia by Drone

Top contributor and drone pilot Jan Trnka Productions spent ten months doing aerial and ground filming of Thailand, Vietnam and Cambodia for over three years. He fell in love with Cambodia, the least well-known of the three countries. His drone reel of Cambodia will give you incredible views of this amazing Southeast Asian country and its people. His video takes you to farms, small fishing villages, and the bustling capital city Phnom Penh, as well as pictures of crushing poverty and environmental degradation.

The DJI Mavic Pro was the tool of choice for SevenCinematics' serene video of Cambodia.  Showing a range of settings from the colorful buildings and ornate temples, to the lush tropical forests and white sand beaches, you can quickly get a sense of life in this spirited country.  The aerial video includes DJI Mavic Pro drone footage of Phnom Penh (the capital city), Siem Reap (a major cultural center in the northern part of the country), and Sihanoukville (capital of the southern beach region).

The most recognizable site in Cambodia is the ancient temple complex of Angkor Wat, in the Siem Riep province. Built in the early 12th century, the world’s largest religious monument was originally a Hindu temple before becoming tied to to the Buddhist religion 100 years later. Top content creator and pilot Fabio Knoll used a drone to create a visual masterpiece of this ancient temple, once the seat of the Khmer Empire which ruled much of Southeast Asia from the 9th to the 15th centuries AD.

Koh Rong is an island tropical paradise off the southwestern coast of the Southeast Asian country of Cambodia. The island was only settled starting in 2000, having been uninhabited prior to that time. Amongst the best lodging options is the island's Song Saa resort. Contributor and pilot Drone Heroes, who travels the world making promotional videos, used a combination of drone and ground cameras to capture the soothing waves and luxurious villas on this island paradise. Koh Rong is the country's second largest island.

During the late 1970's, Cambodia experienced some of the worst that the 20th century served up, notably the deaths of up to two million civiians under the genocidal Khmer Rouge. While the country may never fully heal from the wounds inflicted on its society from this fanatical Communist regime, it is very definitely a country on the move and trying to get beyond its tragic recent past. Contributor and pilot CedricJP used a DJI Mavic Air drone and ground cameras to create an unforgettable tour of this still-haunted land.

Take an aerial tour of the city of Phnom Penh, Cambodia in this fantastic drone video by contributor Drone Eye Perspective.  Located on the banks of three important rivers in the south-central part of the country, Phnom Penh has a metropolitan population of a bit over two million as of 2022.  The video features some excellent footage of the city's best-known modern landmark: the 39 story Vattanac Capital Tower, which has a distinctive curved shape and a protruding observation deck.  It was the city's tallest building when opened in 2014.  

Former Drone Video of the Week Finalist TravelPenguin brings us this excellent drone video of Cambodia's Koh Rong Samloem Island.  The island is located off the country's southwestern coast in the Gulf of Thailand, just south of the somewhat larger and better-known island of Koh Rong.  Like its sister island, Koh Ron Samloem was virtually uninhabited through the end of the 20th century.  SInce then, under various governmental promotion programs, both islands have become popular tourist destinations. 

Cambodia's Siem Riep province, located in the northwestern part of the country, may be its most important from a cultural standpoint. It contains the city of Siem Riep (Cambodia's fifth largest) as well as the Angkor Wat temple complex, the remains of a Khmer Empire city which was one of the most important in the world from the 11th-13th centuries. Top contributor Christer Isulat used a drone to create this amazing region, which is now becoming a major tourist destination in Southeast Asia.

Instagram phenom, top contributor, and pilot Droneheroes created this phenomenal drone video from Kampot, an important city in southern Cambodia.  Kampot was one of the most important cities in Cambodia during its period of French rule which ended in World War II, and its architecture bears a distinct French imprint.  The city is located on the Praek Tuek Chhu River near the southern edge of a chain of mountains which run through this part of the country, just north of its southern coastline on the Gulf of Thailand.  

Cloud-photography created this amazing aerial tour of Cambodia, one of the world's most beautiful countries.  The video features aerial footage from some of the top sights of this ancient and mysterious Southeast Asian land.  Here are the locations you'll see: Sihanoukville (a coastal city in the southwestern part of the country), the tropical islands of Koh Rong and Koh Tonsay, Kampot (a city near the southern Cambodian coast), Bokor Mountain (just west of Kampot), and Tatai Waterfall.

Check out this drone video of Phnom Penh, Cambodia, compliments of AirVuz contributor and pilot Drone Eye Perspective.  The focus of the video is the city's tallest skyscraper as of 2020: the 39 story Vattanac Capital Tower.  With its unique arched profile, the mixed-use tower was the second true skyscraper to be built in the Cambodian capital city.  It has a rooftop height of about 187 meters or about 615 ft.  It has a prominent pool/bar extension off its 33rd floor, part of the Rosewood Phnom Penh Hotel which occupies its top 15 floors.  

Check out this stunning video of Cambodia which combines drone and ground camera footage, compliments of contributor Aldo.  The video features some of the top destinations in this Southeast Asian nation, which is rapidly becoming a prime travel destination.  Locations featured include Koh Rong, an island in the (southern) Sihanoukville Province; Siem Reap, an important city in the northwestern part of the country; the great temple of Angkor Wat; and the floating village of Chong Kneas.

Check out this amazing drone video of Cambodia's largest waterfall, compliments of contributor and pilot Piak.  It goes by various names: Sopheakmit, Lbak Khoun, and Preah Nimith.  The falls are located on a waterway known as the Upper Mekong River in the northern part of this Southeast Asian country, near the border with Laos.  It's part of the Preah Vihear Province, which covers much of the north-central part of Cambodia.  The Mekong River is the principal waterway of the peninsula of Indochina.  

Cambodia has a string of islands off its western coastline on the Gulf of Thailand, some of which have emerged as very popular beach destinations in recent years.  One of the lesser known of these islands is called Koh Chang.  It's the northernmost of the major islands, and actually lies closer to mainland Thailand than to Cambodia.  Top content creator and pilot DroneHeroes combined drone and ground camera footage to create this awesome mini tour of Palm Beach on the emerging tropical paradise.  

Check out this fantastic drone video of the city of Sihanoukville, Cambodia by AirVuz contributor Drone Eye Perspective.  Sihanoukville is the capital of the Preah Sihanouk province, in southwestern Cambodia.  The only port of any size in this Southeast Asian country, Sihanoukville lies in the heart of Cambodia's budding beach region on the Gulf of Thailand, with the magnificent islands of Koh Rong and Koh Rong Saloem lying just offshore.   Sihanoukville is named after King Norodom Sihanouk, considered the father of modern Cambodia.

Contributor Hiro used a DJI Mavic Pro drone to create this bird's eye view of the Angkor Wat temple complex in Cambodia, near Siem Reap. Built in the 12th century, the world’s largest religious complex was once the center of a mighty empire that ruled over much of Southeast Asia. The temple had fallen into disuse during the Khmer Rouge reign of terror, and was "rediscovered" in part through the movies: the 2001 blockbuster Lara Croft: Tomb Raider, starring Angelina Joline, was mostly shot at the complex.

Kampot is an important provincial capital city in southern Cambodia.  It's situated on the Praek Tuek Chhu River near it its mouth on the Gulf of Thailand.  Until the fairly recent development of the port of Sihanoukville, Kampot was the country's principal seaport.  Kampot became an important outpost French rule during Cambodia's Colonial period, and its known in part for its impressive 19th century French architecture.  In this video by new AirVuz contributor and drone pilot Mr. Cam, you'll get a nice aerial view of this river city.  

Tonle Sap Lake is one of the natural wonders of Cambodia.  Located in the middle of the country and connected to the Mekong River by the Tonle Sap River, the lake varies greatly in size depending on the season; during the dry months the direction of the river reverses and water flows into the lake.  The lake is also known for its approximately 170 "floating villages".  Seen here in this drone video by Safi Dehili, the villages were created by refugees returning to the country after the fall of the Khmer Rouge regime in the late 1970's.  

In this video, top AirVuz contributor Ta Prohm Templeand drone pilot Drone Heroes uses Cambodia's Ta Prohm Temple as a backdrop to showcase the charming, smiling faces of the Cambodian locals. Ta Prohm Temple is located in Angkor in the Siam Reap Province, which covers the north central part of this fascinating Southeast Asian country. This area is the home of some of Cambodia's greatest cultural treasures, most of which date to the great Khmer Rouge Empire which ruled much of Southeast Asia from here.

Koh Rong Sanloem is an island off the coast of the Sihanoukville province in southwestern Cambodia. It lies to the south of the better known island Koh Rong in the body of water known as the Gulf of Thailand. In recent years, beaches on these Cambodian islands are increasingly being mentioned in the same breath as Bali and Phuket, other fabled beach regions in Southeast Asia. In this drone video, contributor and pilot Ben Freeley used a DJI Mavic Pro drone to give us a bird's eye view of this paradise on the Gulf of Thailand.
