Hiking Drone Videos

Multiple DVOW Finalist brendanbeale took his nine year old son to Iceland for a camping trip in July, 2023, bringing back this stunning video of what must have been the trip of a lifetime for both.  The first aerial stop in the video is one of the famous black sand beaches of Iceland's southern coastline, followed by the Jökulsárlón glacial lagoon.  Just after the 2:00 mark, you'll see the Vatnajökull glacier, followed by the Fjaðrárgljúfur canyon.  The video concludes with epic shots of the erupting Fagradalsfjall volcano near Reykjavik.  

Top AirVuz contributor Frame Hunters Media brings us this fantastic drone video record of a hike to the highest peak in Romania's Rodna Mountains.  Part of the Eastern Inner Carpathians, the Rodna's are located near the northernmost part of the country, in the Maramureș Region.  Their highest peak, Pietrosul Rodnei has a maximum elevation of about 2.3k meters above sea level or around 7.6k ft.  The mountain is part of a long ridge which forms the backbone of the chain and which runs for about 50 km or around 30 mi.

Multiple Drone Video of the Week Winner semberadventure brings us this excellent drone video from hike into a mountain range in the Central American country of Panama.  The video was filmed over Los Picachos de Olá, a mountainous hiking area near the middle of the country in the province of Coclé.  The area is accessible from the town of Olá, which is about a three hour drive southwest of the city of Panama.  In the video, you'll be able to see the Pacific Ocean (specifically, the Gulf of Parita) off in the distance.   

Check out this fantastic aerial compilation of the Alps Mountains by top AirVūz contributor Muhamad AbuShakra. Filmed in the winter of 2020-21, when travel was greatly restricted due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Muhamad hiked the unexplored winter scenes in the Alps mountains in Germany and Austria.  The Alps are the highest and most extensive mountain range system that lies entirely in Europe, stretching approximately 1,200 km across eight Alpine countries.  This video earned a Drone Video of the Week nomination in March 2021.   

Unraveled Studios used a drone to capture the unbelievable beauty of Peru's Rainbow Mountain, a truly unique geological phenomenon.  Also known as Vinicunca, it's part of the Andes range in the south central part of the country.  The mountain is known not for its height (5.2k m or 17k ft) but rather for its stunning rainbow colors which derive from a unique sedimentary pattern.  Unrivaled Studios gives us a breathtaking aerial look at the mountain, which has only recently opened for tourism. 

Ryten Mountain is one of the top sights of Norway's Lofoten Islands, which sit off the Scandinavian country's northern coast.   The mountain stands 540 meters (about 1.8k ft) above the frigid waters of the North Atlantic Ocean.  In this amazing video, top AirVuz contributor and pilot Droning Thomas hikes to the top of the mountain with his drone.  The resulting video provides a stunning view of Kvalvika Beach below as well as the surrounding mountains, all of which are located above the Arctic Circle.  

The Pyrenees Mountains, by which the Iberian Peninsula attaches to the rest of mainland Europe, are not the Alps.  With a maximum altitude of about 3.4k meters above sea level (around 11.1k ft), even the highest peaks of this range are generally accessible by (physically fit) hikers.  Even in the snow, as top AirVuz contributor and pilot Karl Veca shows us in this great video of an epic hike in the Spanish Pyrenees.  It was created with a DJI Mavic Pro drone supplemented with GoPro ground footage.  

If you've watched the 1960's classic movie the Sound of Music, you may have an image of Austria as a country filled with hikers.  While this is an over-generalization, the fact remains that this Alpine country offers some of the best hiking areas in the world.  Contributor and pilot ClearSky created this spectacular drone video on a hike in the Rax Mountains, in in the eastern region of Styria.  These "little" Alps are generally accessible by hikers and do not require technical mountain climbing equipment.    

Among other distinctions, Hawaii is a hiker's paradise.  The islands of this Pacific archipelago are full of volcanic mountains and rock formations which are easily reachable by well-equipped walkers; in most cases no climbing equipment is required.  In this video, top contributor Ryzone brought a drone along for a hike in the mountains of eastern Oahu, the states's most populous island.  The video shows the hikers reaching the tops of some spectacular seaside rock hills and shoot some epic dronies.

Some of the best hiking areas of the continental USA are in the country's Pacific Northwest region.  The states of Washington and Oregon both offer a huge tracts of forests, mountains, and river valleys which offer spectacular natural scenery to some of the world's most avid hikers.  In this video, content creator and pilot Shanestiles took a Nikon camera and a DJI Phantom 4 drone on an epic hike to some remote volcanic mountains in Oregon, resulting in some epic views of Oregon's amazing geology.

Top AirVuz contributor and drone pilot YoumiTrip is an avid world-traveling hiker who was one of the first to discover what drones can do to record an epic foot expedition.  In this video, he records a hike up French Ridge, a well-known trek on the South Island of New Zealand.  These hills are part of the mountains around Wanaka, a resort area in the foothills of the Southern Alps in the south-central part of the island.  As you will see, the drone extends his ability to see and record the entire area in all its (aerial) splendor.  

This drone video from the Pyrenees Mountains will demonstrate that "Mountains" in France does not always mean "Alps".  While the Pyrenees peaks lack the altitude of a Mont Blanc (the highest peak of the Alps), they are stunningly beautiful, perhaps all the more so for being less well known than the taller mountains to their northeast. In this piece, top AirVuz contributor and drone pilot LeVoyagedesKoumoul captures the graceful beauty of these mountains which separate France from Spain.  

Multiple Drone Video of the Week Winner Beautiful Montenegro brings us another fantastic aerial video from this Southeast European Country.  The video was filmed in the course of a hike to the peak of Mt. Pasjak, which rises to a summit elevation of about 6.6k ft. above sea level or a bit over 2k m.  The mountain is part of the Komovi Mountain range, itself part of the Dinaric Alps range that runs down the western side of the Balkan Peninsula.  The Komovi are located in the southern part of the country, near the border with Albania.  

Part of the Andes system, Peru's Ausangate is one of the highest mountains in the Western Hemisphere.  The might mountain stands nearly 6.4k meters above sea level (about 21k ft.), making it the highest peak in the Cordillera Vilcanota subrange.  Contributor Jturner took a DJI Mavic Pro drone on a 5 day hiking trek around this mountain, which sits in southern Peru.  Prepare to be astounded by the sights these hikers encountered: turquoise lakes, red mountains, golden pastures, alpaca, and llamas.

Six months of travel across eight European countries confirmed both HikeTheWorld's passion for traversing scenic locales on foot.  The video includes footage of their native Slovakia plus stops in Austria, Czech Republic, Switzerland, Italy (the Dolomite mountains), Bosnia & Herzogovina, Croatia, Montenegro, and Albania.  This video was nominated for Drone Video of the Week in October 2018 and subsequently for the second annual Drone Video Awards in the People & Lifestyle category. 

Part of what makes the United Kingdom region of Wales so attractive to outdoors-seekers is that it's accessible.  Virtually all of the Kingdom's many mountains can be reached by hiking, often in just a few hours.  Case in point is Brecon Beacons, a range in South Wales, whose peaks are at an altitude of less than 1k meters (about 2.9k ft) above sea level.  In this video, contributor Jjay51 hiked to the top of one of the peaks with his DJI Mavic Pro drone, creating an epic sunrise view of this stunning corner of the UK. 

Top contributor Zimy da Kid took a drone along on a hike into the French Prealps.  These are essentially "mini Alps" which lie to the west of the "real" French and Swiss Alps.  It's actually a series of ranges, including the Chartreuse and Vercor Mountains.  With modest elevations, they are generally accessible without climbing equipment.  In this video, you'll get a bird's eye view of this epic hiking trip as they walk to the top of Grand Veymont, which at 2.3k meters (7.7k ft) is the highest peak in this range.  

The Alps Mountains are home to some of the world's most epic hiking spots as well as some of the most famous glaciers on the European continent.  The temperatures, altitude, and rock formations of this mountain system make them conducive to forming these huge ice sheets that have helped to shape so much of the range.  Top contributor and drone pilot Scientik hiked his way into these mountains with his drone, and was able to capture some astounding bird's eye views of these icy natural wonders.

Contributor Where-is-Fab created this amazing drone video of one of the top hiking trails in South America.  He and a group of friends tackled the "W" circuit at the Torres del Paine National Park in Chilean Patagonia.  The park is one of the larger tourist attractions in Chile, receiving about a quarter million visitors per year, many of whom are foreigners.  The stunning beauty of the area has caught the eye of filmmakers; Torres del Paine was a filming location for the 2012 action movie Wrath of the Titans.

Going back to the days of the early days of the Appalachian Trail, the gentle slopes of the various Appalachian ranges of the eastern USA have been highly accessible by hiking.  In western North Carolina and eastern Tennessee, where the mountains are known as the Smokies, the most important spot on the Trail was Max Patch Mountain, a "bald" mountain of about 1.4k meters (just under 5k ft.).  In this video, AshvilleAerial used a drone to memorialize a birthday hike to the great rolling top of the mountain.

Top contributor HikeTheWorld, a Finalist for the second annual Drone Video Awards, created this inspiring reel which resulted from a decision to travel the world in 2018.  The video, which itself was nominated for Drone Video of the Week, features fantastic bird's eye views of locations in Montenegro (Durmitor and Prokletije National Parks), Bosnia and Herzegovina (Prenj Mountains), Switzerland (Grindelwald area), Montenegro (Tara Canyon), Italy (Dolomite Mountains), and Austria (Schladminger Tauern).

For volcano lovers seeking a Caribbean island vacation, the go-to spot is the tiny island of St. Vincent.  The primary island of the sovereign nation of St. Vincent and the Grenadines, it's dominated by the Soufrière Saint Vincent volcano.  The mountain towers over the northern part of the island, rising to a peak of 1.2k meters (just over 4k ft.) above sea level.  In this video from Aerial Norway, you'll get a great bird's eye view of the volcano, one of the highest mountains in the Caribbean.  

Muhamad AbuShakra is one of the top content creators in the AirVuz community, with multiple Drone Video of the Week/Month wins to his name.  This masterpiece is another one to add to the list; it was picked as the Winner of the DVOW contest in May of 2021.  Like most of his works, it was shot over the great Alps mountains, home to some of the most spectacular natural scenery on the European continent.  Featuring footage from several countries, the video is an extremely well-edited compilation of some of his best work over three years.  

Without doubt, New Zealand is a hiker's dream.  On both the North and South Islands, you'll find a wealth of walking treks through some of the world's most beautiful natural scenery.  In this video, content creator and pilot Michael Roberts used a DJI Mavic Pro supplemented with a ground camera to record the highlights of a five day hike to Milford Sound.  Situated in a national park on the South Island, Milford routinely appears atop authoritative lists for the best hiking areas in the world.

The desert areas of southern Israel are home to some of the world's most unusual rock formations.  One of these is the HaMakhtesh HaGadol ("Big Crater") in the Negev Desert, near the southern extent of the country.  It's actually not a volcanic crater but rather a makhtesh, a landform which is caused by unusual erosion patterns and which is almost unknown outside of southern Israel and the Sinai Peninsula.  In this video, Ori Feldman used a DJI Mavic Pro drone to create an epic aerial video of a hike on this amazing formation.

Top content creator and drone pilot Ryan Shirley experienced pure awe and wonderment when he hiked through the Dolomite Mountains of northeastern Italy, which form part of the Alps Mountains system.  The overwhelming power of the mountain peaks comes across in his intensely edited aerial reel that features shots from Tre Cime di Lavaredo, Seceda, Sassolungo, and Lago di Braies. This video was chosen as a Finalist in the Nature and Landscape category in the second annual Drone Video Awards.

Check out this stunning drone video of one of the most beautiful spots in the Caucasus republic of Georgia, compliments of content creator and pilot Andrey_stepanaov.   Birtvisi Canyon is located in the province of Kvemo Kartli, which occupies a portion of southern Georgia.  The gorge was created by the Algeti River, which flows through it.  The canyon is home to a well known medieval fortress which is almost natural - ie, most of the structure was created by the limestone rocks of the canyon.
