San Diego is the southernmost major city of California and the center of its third-largest metropolitan area, after Los Angeles and the San Francisco Bay area. Once known largely as a base for naval ships, San Diego is now a major convention center, and its beaches offer some of the finest spots for surfing as well as for whale and dolphin watching. Some of its beach communities such as La Jolla are amongst the wealthiest in the country, and its a major point of entry from Mexico immediately to its south. East of the beaches, its vast hinterland offers some of the best spots for hiking in the Golden State. In this collection, you can check out this sun-soaked metropolis from a bird's eye perspective.
