Bird's Eye Views of Namibia

Prepare to be amazed by this stunning drone video from Namibia, compliments of contributor davetke2002.  Starting at the :16 mark, you'll see the Sossusvlei, a giant salt pan at the southern end of the Namib Desert.  At the 1:00 mark, you'll see the nearby Sossusvlei, a white clay pan which is home to some of the world's highest sand dunes.  At 1:45, you'll fly past the Spitzkoppe, a mountain which is sometimes called the Matterhorn of Namibia, and at 2:40 you'll see Walvis Bay.  Interspersed are some magnificent safari animal shots.   

Prepare to be blown away by this short drone video from Namibia, compliments of top contributor Ericbartolo.  He used a DJI Mavic Pro 2 drone to record highlights of a two week trip through the Sub-Saharan African country, in which he covered over 4k km (around 2.4k mi.).  The video opens with an epic shot of the Fish River Canyon, a giant ravine in the southern part of the country.  You'll also be treated to some incredible views of the Namib Desert, which runs along the Namibian coastline and which is one of the driest places on earth.

Award-winning contributor and drone pilot Mike Bishop was supported by DJI to make this incredible film of wildlife in Namibia in southern Africa.  Shot on the Erindi game reserve, it features elephants, lions, cheetahs, hyenas, ostriches, crocodiles, other exotic animals only found in Africa.  Chosen as a winner of the AirVuz Drone Video of the Week and Drone Video of the Month, it went on to win the Drones for Good category in the second annual Drone Video Awards and was named the Drone Video of the Year.

Top AirVuz contributor scuervo.traveler was picked as a Drone Video of the Week Finalist in September, 2024 for this fantastic drone video from the Namib Desert in Namibia.  Considered one of the world's most "perfect" deserts, the Namib Desert runs parallel to the coast of southwestern Africa, covering all of Namibia's coastline as well as parts of that of Angola (to the north) and South Africa (to the south).  Almost completely uninhabited, the desert is believed to be the oldest in the world.

Take an adventure through the Republic of Namibia with this awesome trip video by contributor Benandstories.  Ride along as he takes us from the capital city of Windhoek, to the famous salt pan Deadvlei (which translates to "dead marsh"), the coastal city of Swakopmund, the granite peaks of Spitzkoppe in the Namib desert, and Etosha National Park, known as the home of the endangered black rhino.  It is easy to see why this video was picked as a finalist for the Drone Video of the Week in late 2018.  

Here's an amazing drone's eye view of Namibia's famed Fish River Canyon, compliments of contributor XG121.  Located in the southern part of the country near the South African border, it's created by the Fish River.  The canyon is about 160 km (around 100 mi.) long, and up to 550 meters (around 1.8k ft.) deep.  It's the largest canyon on the African continent, and appears near the top of most authoritative lists of the world's top canyons.  Its accessible via a hiking trail, one of the most popular in Sub-Saharan Africa.

The Namib Desert runs roughly parallel to the (north-south oriented) western (Atlantic Ocean) coastline of southern Africa, primarily in Namibia.  It's considered one of the world's most "perfect" deserts (annual rainfall averages less than a tenth of an inch in its driest areas) as well as one of its oldest.  In this video by top AirVuz contributor scuervo.traveler, you'll get an aerial view of some of sand dunes in the Namibia portion of the desert.  This video was picked as a Drone Video of the Week Finalist in July of 2024.    

Multiple Drone Video of the Week Winner brings us another stunning drone video, this one from the Namib Desert of Southern Africa.  Shot with a Zenmuse X7 camera mounted to a DJI Inspire 2 drone, the video follows the path of a girl who is "lost" in the vastness of this giant coastal desert, which covers the entire Namibian coastline as well as parts of Angola to the north and South Africa to the south.  Formed an estimated 55-80 million years ago, the Namib is believed to be the oldest desert in the world.  

Top AirVuz contributor Drone My Life won the 2022 AirVuz Drone Video of the Year award for his video from Denmark's Faroe Islands.  To make this amazing video, he traveled thousands if miles/km to the Sub-Saharan African nation of Namibia.  Filmed with both gimbal-stabilized and first person view (FPV) drones, you'll soar over the vast Namib Desert, which runs parallel to Namibia's Atlantic Ocean coastline.   Other highlights include a herd of giraffes at the the 2:04 mark and a nice shot of the coastline at around 2:48.

Like many countries in Sub-Saharan Africa, Namibia is known in part for its large mammal wildlife, many of which can only be seen in the wild on safaris to the country.  One of these mammals is the Hippopotamus, the third-largest form of land mammal, and only native to Africa.  In this drone video, contributor FreD gives us a drone's eye view of a very relaxed group of Hippo's cooling themselves in some Namibian waters.  From the video, you'll see how their noses let them lay almost totally submerged.

For a first upload, new contributor goldschakal studio brings us this excellent drone video from the nation of Namibia in Sub-Saharan Africa.  The video was shot over the course of a camping trip in the northwestern part of the country.  The area was once known as Kaokoland during the period of time when Namibia was part of South Africa, and it was originally established to become a self-governing homeland for the Himba indigenous people.  Following Namibia's achievement of independence in 1990, it became known as the Kunene Region.  

Check out this drone video from a giant salt basin in the southwest African country of Namibia, compliments of AirVuz contributor sphereview.  The basin is located just off of Walvis Bay, a natural harbor which lies about halfway down the country's long Atlantic coastline.  In addition to being one of the biggest sources of salt for human consumption in Sub-Saharan Africa, the salt pan also feeds a large shrimp population and the wetlands here constitute one of the continent's largest bird sanctuaries.  

Contributor and drone pilot Rikk08 created this amazing aerial mini-tour of Namibia in southern Africa.  In addition to some amazing shots of the Namib Desert and the beautiful Atlantic seashore, the first part of the video will give you a very rare look at one of the world's most well known canyons.  Fish River Canyon is in the southern part of the country, along the South African border.  Carved by the river bearing the same name, with a maximum depth of 550 meters (over 1.8k ft.) it's the deepest gorge in Africa.  

AirVuz contributor F.Kok. brings us this fantastic drone video of the Zambezi River, one of Africa's longest waterways.  The video was filmed in the Caprivi, strip of land which extends from the northeastern corner of Namibia, with Angola and Zambia to its north and Botswana to its south.  The Zambezi, Africa's fourth-longest river, rises in Zambia and follows a generally eastern/southeastern course of about 1.6k mi. (around 2.6k km) to Mozambique on Africa's eastern coast, where it empties into the Indian Ocean.  

Check out this drone video of one of the longest rivers in Africa, compliments of AirVuz contributor and pilot F.Kok.  The Okavango River rises in the highlands of Angola.  It runs a generally southeastern course of just under a thousand miles (1.6k km), making it the fourth-longest river in Sub-Saharan Africa.  The river empties not into an ocean but rather into the inland Okavango Delta in Botswana, where it either evaporates.  In the video, you'll see a stretch of the river where it forms the boundary between Namibia and Angola.      

AirVuz contributor and pilot F.Kok brings us this excellent drone video from the coast of Namibia, a large country in southwestern Africa.  The video was filmed over Henties Bay, a town which lies roughly in the middle of Namibia's long Atlantic Ocean coastline.  Part of the National West Coast Recreation Area, the area is very popular with 4x4 enthusiasts.  Close to the mouth of the Omaruru River, the area was named Coast of Fish (Praia das Sardinhas) by the Portuguese explorer Bartolomeu Dias in the late 15th century.

Contributor and drone-explorer extraordinaire brings us this epic pull-out shot taken on the longest river in southern Africa.  The Orange River sources from the Drakensberg mountains and runs most of its 2.2 km (1,4k mi.) course westwards through South Africa, serving as its northern border with Namibia before discharging into the South Atlantic Ocean.  It is considered one of South Africa's greatest natural resources, supplying vast amounts of irrigation and hydropower to the region's most populous country.
