The Baltic Sea is the Mediterranean Sea of northern Europe. It is bounded on the west by Denmark, on the south by Germany and Poland, on the north by Sweden and Finland, and on the east by Russia and the so-called Baltic States of Estonia, Latvia, and Lithuania. The Baltic has a rich history and maintains its importance as a critical transportation waterway connecting these countries to the rest of the world. Its cities range from Copenhagen on its western end to St. Petersburg on its eastern, with cities like Stockholm, Riga, Gdansk, and Helsinki in between. Its coastal areas feature some of Europe's oldest and most famous seaports, while its inland areas include spectacular expanses of forests, lakes, and some of Europe's most important wetlands. From the , the island of Mon to the Estonian swamps, aerial views of this area are spectacular! Aerial photo: “Turku, Finland” by AirVuz contributor and drone pilot Nikkelodeon.
