2020 Drone Videos of the Week: Episode 21

Award-winning contributor and pilot Bachir_Photo_Phactory brings us this DVOW winning reel from Dubai, the most well-known of the seven emirates that make up the Middle Eastern nation of the United Arab Emirates.  The video opens with some great footage of some of the natural landscapes which surround Dubai's namesake capital, including the Ras Al Khor wildlife sanctuary.  Heading into the great city itself, you'll be treated to aerial views of sights as varied as a helicopter landing, an amusement park, pleasure boat traffic, and more.  

Take an aerial tour of Italy in this fantastic DVOW nominated piece by @DronDuilio.  The video opens with an excellent shot of the famous Ponte Vecchio Bridge over the River Arno in Florence, followed by a view of the St. Mark's Basilica in Venice.  At the :20 mark, you'll see the magnificent Castle Maniaci in Syracuse on the island of Sicily, and at :28 a great shot of the iconic Amalfi Coast.  Other highlights include the ancient town of Matera (:40), the striped tower and Duomo of Siena (:53), Rome's Victor Emmanuel II Monument (1:30), and more.

Some of the most iconic sights of the Netherlands are its windmills.  While the Dutch did not invent windmills, the windswept North European Plain proved an ideal environment to perfect the technology.  One of the best place to see Dutch windmills is around the town of Zanse Schans, which lies in the province of North Holland, just west of Amsterdam; It's home to hundreds of these wooden marvels.  Check out this DVOW nominated drone video of the windmills around Zanse Schans, compliments of JS Videography.  

Check out this stunning DVOW nominated video from Bologna, Italy, compliments of Jackanda.  Featuring stunning aerial footage of the city and its surrounding hills, the video was taken during the Covid-19 pandemic, when social distancing measures left the streets of the ancient Emilia-Romagna capital city virtually empty.  The ER region, which covers much of north-central Italy, was particularly hard-hit during the pandemic; only the Piedmont and Lombardy regions recorded more infections and deaths.  

Check out this fantastic DVOW nominated drone reel from brand-new contributor Nicoz187.  Featuring a stunning mix of landscape, urban, and action shots, the video opens with some spectacular sequences involving a mountain ridge, an airport, and a giant wind farm.  Action shots follow, including some great footage of an eagle taking off from a tree, an iconic Volkswagon Beetle on a mountain road, and a sea plane lifting off the water.  You'll also be treated to aerial views of an amazing ski obstacle course, hot air balloons, and more.
