FPV Laguna Verde

The installation, in 1939, of a thermoelectric plant in the vicinity produced the settlement of the town. The first inhabitants were company workers, who lived in the vicinity of the El Sauce estuary.3 This power plant operated on coal for decades, causing serious pollution problems that remain to this day, despite the fact that it was converted to work by diesel.4​5​ In 1952, the urban limits of the city of Valparaíso were established, and the town of Laguna Verde was annexed. 6 Starting in 1980, with the approval of Law No. 3,516, which established regulations on the division of rural properties and allowed living in Beyond the urban limits, there was a population growth towards high parts such as Curaumilla and Punta Curaumilla, thus establishing residential use in forest areas.2 Currently the town is divided into two zones: The urban area, located in the lower part around the mouth of the El Sauce estuary and the beach, characterized by the houses built for the workers of the thermoelectric plant and others in isolated places. Laguna Verde Alto, characterized by houses inserted in forest areas built from informal subdivisions associated with transfers of property rights, for which reason irregular construction without territorial planning is common.
