The active stratovolcano is located on the island of Fogo, one of ten islands which make up the archipelago country. The volcano has a summit of about 9.3k ft. above sea level (around 2.8k m), the highest spot in Cape Verde. The volcano erupts fairly regularly (most recently in 2014), although the last eruption of the main cone was in 1680.
