Penang is one of the 13 states of this Southeast Asian country (not including its three Federal Territories). It's located on the western side of Malay Peninsula, roughly two-thirds of the way from Kuala Lampur (to its south) to the country's northern border with Thailand. The state consists of the island of Penang and territory on the adjacent part of the mainland.
